  1. Anyone had any dealings with the ebay seller fwic2803 previously? I bought a tanto off him a few weeks ago and he doesn't reply to ebay messages I send him. I wondered if anyone else had dealt with him previously as the feedback he receives seems quite decent.

    A mistake

Out of interest what happened with UK customs?
  3. You would have to get a polisher to correct the nakago, give it a proper suriage shape, and a new mekugi-ana higher up. Sword is far from ruined, and it might be worthy of the repair.
  4. Also means it left Japan illegally without being de-registered.
  5. Tsuka is covered in silver foil. Thanks for all the replies so far, much appreciated.
  6. A friend asked if I would post some photos of this sword to get the members opinion. Looks like a Meiji period tourist piece but seems a bit different than the usual ones. It has a mumei shinto katana blade mounted in the koshirae. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Peter
  7. Whats the best way to get a gendaito into Japan now just use EMS? Also if you have to pay the duty how much would it be as a percentage?
  8. It needs a polish badly, unless its very cheap your better off looking elsewhere.
  9. Nanban ?
  10. Thanks for the photos, it's signed Kofu ju Toshimasa (江府 住 利政) Think he worked in the 1800s.
  11. Bubba, Do you have any closeup photos of the tsuba. Is it iron? Most of the ones you see in that style are soft metal. Thanks, Peter
  12. Just noticed a similar tsuba on Yahoo. Not sure if they give an attribution, but its in far worse condition than yours: http://page15.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... t277294259
  13. My copy shipped this morning, so looks like they had some stock early.
  14. Amazon UK now shipping orders
  15. Is this the right tool to use? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270879333522
  16. All wrong sorry. Your sword is a wakizashi and it is just as likely a commoner or merchant owned it. At the rate you are buying swords it would have been much better just to have put down $10,000 and bought one good one with Tokubetsu-Hozon papers.
  17. I believe the tsuba is signed Kiyobo sanjin Jakushi Ryuunken Koretaka with kakihan. This generation of Jakushi worked in the mid 19th century. Not a bad tsuba I have a similar one that is katana size with the same mei.
  18. This is a mount that would have been used in combat.
  19. Certain sword-smiths were awarded the right to use it by the Imperial Court. If you don't already have it, buy a copy of this book, it should help with some of the common questions. http://www.amazon.com/Samurai-Swords-Cl ... 247&sr=8-1
  20. Bmoore1322 will like this one http://www.michaeldlong.com/Catalogue/E ... agger.aspx
  21. It's not that nice to be honest, likely to be gimei.
  22. Can anyone help with this sayagaki? Thanks, Peter
  23. About 5 years ago I had an Amada Sadayoshi katana that was in WW2 civilian koshirae. It was suguha and had good jigane and nice activity in the hamon. The nakago was badly corroded, so I'm not sure what the date was. The new owner had it polished and it came out pretty nice.
  24. Could be the same sword, think it went to someone in Australia eventually. Shame if they have separated the mounts, the blade was papered to Bizen Osafune Moromitsu ca. 1390.
