  1. Thanks John, I think you are right that its Yoshi. I think the final kanjii might be yasu? Kofu ju Yukiyoshi (H 12487.0 ) There is a tsuba with a similar mei at Bonhams: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20802/lot/344/
  2. Can anyone assist with this tsuba mei? I believe its Kofu ju but not certain on the final two kanji. Thanks, Peter
  3. For people in the UK, Liverpool militaria now has an online store with swords for sale etc. http://www.liverpoolmilitaria.com/shop.php Peter
  4. I saw the fittings for the blade on ebay, not a pretty sight.... :|
  5. Second photo appears to show a nasty fukure. Definitely not worth the cost of restoration. It's also probably gimei.
  6. I posted a tanto with a similar design a few years back: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6972
  7. Auction is still going with 5+ days to go.
  8. I have a sword signed Choshu ju Nio Kiyohira. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts which generation it might be? It is a big beefy naginata naoshi style wakizashi. Thanks, Peter
  9. The nakago patina looks a bit iffy too:
  10. You can't sell on eBay UK, you have to sell on the US ebay site. If you list the sword on the UK site they will remove it.
  11. Sorry I don't have access to the blade to get any more photos. I have these but I'm not sure they are good enough to help much. I didn't mention previously but the blade is not dated.
  12. Unfortunately you can't see anything in the blade due to its current condition. You can just about make out a suguha hamon but that's it.
  13. Thanks Joe, I read in one of the gendai books that Akimune (pupil of Akihide) signed Sadaharu at one point in his working life? Do you think its possible this sword could be by him?
  14. Bill Tagg's shop is only open for another 4 weeks and then he is retiring. He is planning to still remain a dealer but it will be online based through his website. He will also attend militaria fairs etc.
  15. A friend has a katana in gunto mounts, which is signed Sadaharu (no stamps). Does anyone have any information on this smith? It looks like the sword is a gendaito. I wondered if this is an earlier signature of Akimune or a completely different smith? Thanks, Peter

    Mokume Tsuba

I already agreed that it wasn't that work of Sano Terumichi after seeing your example. I was just asking if there is a possibility of it being by someone else who signed Terumichi. You seem to be under the illusion that I bought it believing it was by Sano Terumichi, I did not. I bought it because I liked it, plain and simple.

    Mokume Tsuba

Is it possible my tsuba is by a swordsmith who signed Terumichi as opposed to Sano Terumichi? eg. http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TER26

    Mokume Tsuba

I recently picked up an interesting mokume ji tsuba signed Terumichi. Any ideas if this is the work of Sano Terumichi? I can't find any examples of his work to compare with this mei. From Haynes: Worked : Edo, Died: 1825, Student of Sano Naoteru (H 06794) Thanks, Peter
  20. I'm not sure which is worse the polish or the koshirae.
  21. There are companies around that will do the lot: http://www.yps-publishing.co.uk/index.php
  22. Markus, Would there be any possibility of you translating any of the remaining volumes of the Nihon-to Koza? I'm guessing the copyright has long lapsed on these. Specifically the one on yari, nagamaki and naginata ? Thanks, Peter
  23. One I remember is that someone bought a cheap sandai Tadayoshi from Daimyo54eb on eBay that papered.
  24. It's hard to see on your photo but it looks like finger print staining. Best thing to do is just give it a good clean with uchiko.
  25. The rules changed in January, they only specify you are not allowed to ship weapons. Antique swords are fine, as are antique guns. It sounds like over zealous post office workers misinterpreting the rules. See here for clarification on guns: http://www.gtaltd.co.uk
