  2. "Jumei Tosho smiths also made blades using non-traditional materials, mainly forged mill steel. Blades with star stamps and which show nie in the yakiba are considered by some collectors to be gendaito" https://www.japaneseswordindex.com/gendai2.htm would this statement implie that a star stamped blades that lacks any nie in the yakiba or above the hamon are not gendai??? or am I mis-reading. from all I have read the Star stamp states that they are RJT, and not that blade is in fact a gendai. I like what david suggested, but do all RJT blades bear mune stamps to indicate the armouries that received them?? I have seen atleast 1 STAR stamped blade with no mune micro stamps. I'm attempting to re-learn or understand what the standards are in todays nihonto society as they appear to change. . as I know someone who sent a RJT STAR stamped blade to Japan in the mid 90s and it was apparently destroyed and had his gunto fittings turned to him. also david asked which Kaneshige. Morita kaneshige page 63 on sloughs. hes only listed as making gendai, but the oshigata shown has a stamp removed. what and why?? was it a star or a seki?? also would anyone have a proven Minamoto yasachika made from imported steel??
  3. Hi guys, after a members little did at militaria collectors not being experienced at judging nihonto. I'm asking for people to provide pics of non traditional blades made by RJT smiths to may be try and get a small census of the ratio of gendai to showato/sekito, that could bare the RJT STAR, or have been made by a RJT smith Minamoto yoshichika also reportedly made gendai and used imported steal, and was working before the period requiring non-traditional blades to be identified. so could this possible help identify a so called gendai made with imported or rolled steel. so heres a list of smiths that I'm looking for Noshu ju Kanehide (star + Seki stamp) (Kojima) Kanemichi (star +Showa stamp) Kanenaga (star +Seki stamp) Kaneshige (star + Seki stamp) Seki ju Kanetomo (star + Seki stamp) Noshu ju (Murayama) Kanetoshi (star + Seki stamp) Oki Kuni ju Kikumitsu (star + tai stamp) Onoki Naoji (star + Seki stamp) Sukekuni (star + Showa stamp) and any more. I'm testing/challenging my own opinion as to "once a RJT STAR stamped blade bears a micro SEKI, SHO or NA stamp on any part of the blade that the blade is only 95% gendaito if you get my meaning, as a very small amount of work or materials are not 100% traditional and the blade has been marked to help identify it.
  4. Very pleaseing to look at.

  6. I had a Kyu gunto with a double stamping, only just noticed a second example
  7. 8. I'm sure it will polish out
  9. flynny has has mentioned in the past, the placement of stamps having different meanings. I agree 100% flynny has also mentioned stamp combinations, also having other means. I 90% agree the Ura or Omote stamps are well researched and understood. but these mune or micro stamps meanings aren't truly revealed in there full meaning. making it hard to fully understand Yes david, a star stamped blade was made by a RJT, but why didi they put a seki stamp in the mune?????? but at the end of the day if the seki stamp is on the Ura or Omote its for a reason, and the Japanese government of the day made it mandatory to mark them for a reason.
  10. If it holds a seki stamp. It is not a gendai-to. Full stop If it was a 100% traditional made blade out of tamahagane, it would have never had a seki stamp. If it was made really well but imported materials were used its lumped in as a seki/showa-to. Not sure why peaple still trying to discuss there way around IS or ISNT my seki showa to a gendaito in hidding. If its not 100% made in the traditional way its not a gendaito.. You need these rules to exist in every aspect of manufacturing Example Is my indian made sports car a Ferrari because it looks like it could be made like a Ferrari
