    Hello, gentlemen. I'm in need of your expertise. I am interested in possibly purchasing this naginata. It appears to be signed and papered, but with the infamous green papers? The koshirae and shirasaya are very nice, but the blade itself looks ? hard to evaluate. Is this a gem that just needs a good polish, or would I be trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear?     I learned from Kelly Schmidt that the seller, who worked at a samurai museum, also thought it was a back plate from a Japanese dou. From what I've been able to learn about Mongolian armour (which is very little), they always fought on horseback, and their armour was light and lamellar, over several layers of fabric. Women wore very similar armour (no boob plates). So, probably not a Mongolian gal's wardrobe. And seriously, what girl wants to look like a guy's backside, anyway? ????, Kathleen

    BaZZa, there were many female warriors amongst the Chinese and the Japanese, but dedicated armor is extremely rare. The only examples I've been able to find are in museums. Breast plates like this, in my experience, are modern fakes. If I'd seen this example, I might have purchased it, just to have it authenticated vs debunked. Cheers, Kathleen

    I bought a tanto post auction from this sale. The blade was actually more interesting in hand than in the auction photos. Unfortunately it had also acquired 2 fingerprints, one on each side, as if someone held it btwn thumb and forefinger. I tried unsuccessfully to remove the prints with a soft cloth, and wound up returning the tanto.
