  1. As far as which societies papers are better? With signed swords, I don't believe it really matters (unless one is considering Juyo) As far as Mumei swords go, I believe the American Shinsa with the two NTHK may tend to rush their verdict. However, I put more credence with Shinsa in Japan ( for Mumei). Again, unless one is going for Juyo, I hold all three as a much of a muchness (in Japan).
  2. Here's my spin, If you are having a sword polished, then Shinsa is a must. If you are only considering having a sword polished, then again, Shinsa is a must.
  3. Maybe this is what you're after? ..

Before even considering it for restoration, The Rust in the Monouchi needs to be checked, to make sure it's not too deep.

Also, check out the Gassan School thread.
  6. 1st giveaway, the sword above is signed Katana Mei, where as Tadayoshi signed Tachi Mei.
  7. Eric, you wont get more than Hozon. Save your money.
  8. This is becoming ridiculous. I believe it's time to close this thread.
  9. I have a Sukekane Katana with TH. From the limited photo's I've seen of the Hamon, it looks very similar to mine. I'd go, that it's probably Shoshin. However, the only way to make certain is Shinsa. Until then, every opinion (including mine) is hypothetical.
  10. Yes they are. In Japan, Gendaito are called Showato and Showato are called Gunto.
  11. Gendaito are Nihonto. For that matter, so are Showato.
  12. The photo's aren't good enough to make a decent opinion. However, it appears to be oil tempered.
  13. jean, generally cleaning a nakago is taboo. However, on a Gendaito, it's not that dramatic and shouldn't detract too much.
  14. How about some more photo's then, including the Nakago.
  15. Sanbon Sugi. I think you'll find that, the hamon is etched.
  16. Beautiful Kaigunto Koshirae, with metal Tsunagi. US$600
  17. For sale, a lovely Shingunto Koshirae with Lacquered wooden sayer and pieced Tsuba. US$600
