I like how the Boshi/turnback really stands out on this one. Its neat to see the different hardness of iron on Kissaki/Mune where the polisher marks end. I guess the whole idea of burnishing is interesting.

You really haven't lived until you've slept on 1000 thread count unicorn sheets lol Also I'd like to add that many of the SELLING/ASKING prices are inflated but actual purchase prices of papered/desirable Nihonto seems ok to me. Given I've only been following prices for less than 2 years so, grain of salt

I've been searching but cannot seem to find that seller now. I did see that the last few ratings/feedback were extremely negative. So maybe he/ she is banned? Or maybe I blocked them and forgot. Anyways, whoever they were got the rust technique down fairly good but made it the EXACT same on every blade. Even the different styles of blades were good. It would seem, lately, there are some pretty good "Nihonto" forgereries. If it's a bare blade and is listed as over 300 years old (or antique) with rusted tang that looks a little too uniform with a very nice blade with no defects, it's more than likely fake. But as another member said above, there are new forged Chinese blades in the Japanese Nihonto image, not to be confused with "forgeries". But if it is "real"(ie; not a forgery and not a newly made Chinese), I would post pics of it here fist and ask for some advice from the pros before purchasing. Just in case A sword without a koshirae/shirasaya is bound to end up with some ouchies. Unless the koshirae was sold separately or just tossed out but who knows

I think I know who you're talking about. It took me a few minutes to actually realize they were fakes. Very good but the rust is uniform on each different blade and stops in exact spot. But the amount of detail is pretty impressive. Guy has all kinds of different styles claiming to be kamakura etc... I'd stay away just on sheer principle frm that one but legit bare blades are o.k. but usually thrashed. I can't recall seeing many decent bare blades for sale. A few but that's it

Lol ham fisted I think we all know my opinion on this matter. It reminds me of the intro to that old series from the 70s... The million dollar man i think it was? "We've got the technology, we can do it!" But You know, as I type this, I'm looking at my Ko-Kinko copper tsuba and I'm thinking "If I had to, would I file to fit?" And I think the answer is no. I'm just lucky the sword I bought it for fits right on, or technically in, with a little coaxing. But honestly I don't think I could take the hams to it. Actually the mere thought of it now makes me light headed and queasy... so to the delight of some, I'm outta here

Wow! From a glance they look like the average koi but when enlarged (after clicking pic), they look super detailed! Very nice work! Im going to go with the "go to" school Go-to but maybe something rare like ichijo or utsuki?

Not a tsuba but fits the "oddities" theme. Kinda sad that after the Meiji restoration and maybe even prior, Nihonto items started becoming decorative and less functional for a time being. Some seemed to be cast into the "memorabilia" category I think its a tobacco box/kit made from Saya?

Ive always been a fan of this Koshirae. Here is one of my silver Fuchi as well. I have others but cant seem to find the pics. They're in a separate thread floating around here somewhere tho

Hey what did I do now? But to be honest, if the price is under a certain number (for me its $1000) and the item looks good and is legit, for me, lack of paper doesn't matter. But this is just MY opinion. Now if its supposedly a famous smith or early era and the asking price is quite a bit of $$$, I would definitely want papers. I guess it really depends on what you want. Of course a blade with paper is better because, if paper is legit, then that means a group of experts have verified the blade, giving a certain "stamp of authenticity" in an otherwise foggy area. The information you get from Shinsa is far more valuable than anything, I think. In other words, you pay to know the history of an otherwise unknown (or speculated) blade. Lastly, some seem to want more money for blades with paper, or use that as their only motive. For me that doesnt really matter. I mean it helps but if I have sword I like, then I probably wont want to sell it unless there is an emergency. I prefer the historic and blade specific info over $$$ any day Just my .02 cents

I agree with Geraint. Even if the basic measurements seem to match, it's a pain trying to fit a "aftermarket" habaki to a blade. For instance, this one I'm showing you was sure to fit one of my blades. I measured and everything but I couldn't get it to fit. It was too big at the end. So with that said, I have one but its a double gold. Gold is light and looks silver in low light but in good light it's a nice gold color. Some blemish but overall in good condition. I'd say, atm, there are a few really nice blades here in the for sale section for under $10k. Personally for me, I'm a history hound, so I stear towards Koto blades. But honestly it's a hard question to answer because each collector has different taste and goals. Plus if the blade is for sale one day, the next day it's gone. Wether is a $1000 blade or a $10k blade, it's whatever makes you happy. But for that price it better have paper and a signature???? My. 02 cents
