  1. Arnold pointed out in an earlier thread that there actually is a gendaito which was awarded Juyo Token, a Gassan Sadakazu wakizashi dated 1908.
  2. I likewise see 兼光 in the koto blade.
  3. I am guessing the Kagemitsu sold to a NMB member. If so, hope we get a more detailed, hands-on assessment of the sword.
  4. No, not a less famous "sandai" Kagemitsu. They are referring to Kagemitsu being the third generation of the Osafune mainline after Mitsutada and Nagamitsu.
  5. Absolutely . Still, if one wanted to own an example by one of the grandmasters of Kamakura Bizen and do not have Juyo-level funds to play with this might be a rare opportunity.
  6. Not often that one sees a Kagemitsu for sale at this price level, so I thought it worthwhile to share. http://www.tsuruginoya.com/mn1_3/a00490.html
  7. Unless 'not a novice' means a professionally trained and licensed togishi, this is not going to go over well.
  8. My impression isn't a good one to be honest. Perhaps you can find other around that date (1975) to compare with
  9. Can we see hear/more about this sword? There is variation in his post war work. http://www.katana.giheiya.com/shouhin_list/japanese_sword/iaiyoushinken/01-1315.html
  10. Reference from Slough attached.
  11. I am seeing Shoda Masafusa (荘田正房)
  12. A day in May, 1934.
  13. The Tadayoshi looked gimei to me, and specifically one intended to passed off as a shodai.
  14. Certainly appears to be a nice hand-made blade. With a little Photoshop magic, hakkikake and a prominent masame-hada:
  15. My pleasure James, we have a number of members located in the UK here in our discussion group. I'm sure some would be happy to help you with an initial cleaning and maintenance, along with an assessment of potential value after in hand inspection. Best regards, Ray
  16. Information on Bizen Hidekage here. http://www.sho-shin.com/OEI4.htm Also very important info on how to care for your sword. http://www.nbthk-ab.org/Etiquette.htm
  17. Sounds like a bullet dodged.
  18. This looks like a nice piece Marco. Was it sold as an authentic Masamune? You can see a lot of information here if you do a search for concerns about Tokubetsu Kicho, when it comes to big named swords.
  19. Tokubetsu Kicho papers stating: TANTO: Mumei (den) Masamune Can you provide some photos of the blade?
  20. Hi James, The first appears to be a Seki WWII era blade by Kanetoshi (with a Seki stamp indicating that it is not traditionally made) . The second appears to be an early Muromachi blade by Bishu Osafune Hidekage with an Eikyō date (circa 1429). The Bizen Hidekage is suriage (slightly shortened). Best regards, Ray
  21. Much appreciated, thank you Robert.
  22. My gut feeling is that we are looking at a shinsakuto, but a well-made one.
  23. I saw a posting today showing photos of a catalog for 'Treasure Swords of the Uesugi', which seems to focus on the Kagekatsu Kō Ote Erabi Sanjūgo Koshi (景勝公御手選三十五腰). Does anyone have details on this upcoming exhibition? Best regards, Ray
  24. In case some of you might have missed the interesting Gallery items Fred has posted recently. http://www.nihonto.com/category/gallery/other-gallery/
  25. I am seeing a large kitae-ware in both the paper and the scan. No 'cracks' per se (no hagire).
