Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this, if not please move it. I just wanted to post some pictures of a recent purchase from the Orlando Japanese Sword Show. I am away from my notes right now but if anyone wants measurements please ask. I know the blade measures about 24” and the pole is approximately 60+ inches. Enjoy and please feel free to comment, good or bad. I don’t collect pole arms but wanted one. MikeR

Hello All. I have wanted a nice ( to me at least ) Japanese Matchlock for some time now. I spoke to a few people and read the one and only book that I could find on the subject. My thought was that I only wanted one ( I said that about Japanese Swords and that didn’t work out as I have many ) and I knew what I liked to look at. So this weekend at the Orlando Japanese Sword Show there were 3 Matchlocks to choose from, two very ruff ones and the one pictured below that I am the new caretaker of. With knowing very little about them please feel free to teach me about what I have, good or bad. If there is any further information that you need please ask. I am away from my notes right now so the only measurement that I can remember is the bore size that is about 1/2”. Thank you for your time and I hope that you enjoy. MikeR

Paz, I was always told that “ you don’t pick the sword , the sword picks you. That being said if you have the means ($) and you would like to become the next caretaker of the blade then Go For It! If you are thinking about enough to post the question then it is probably calling out to you and if you you will never regret the purchase. We all have that one that we can’t explain the connection but something told us to buy it and that’s the one that we never sell. Don’t know why. Let us know how you make out. MikeR

Just picked up another leather covered Tanto. I posted some pictures of my other one in another thread some time ago. Someone cut the top of the leather off for some reason, maybe to slid it back to remove the peg. See the pictures attached. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I am. Also if anyone could give me a translation of the smith it would be greatly appreciated. MikeR

As far as the paint is concerned, I worked for GM at a plant that built airplanes in WW2 and they used a yellow primer on government parts. Can’t remember if it was called zinc- oxide or something else. I am sure that this same primer would have been available a lot of places during the war and after. This makes me believe, like others have said, it was probably painted by the GI that picked it up or maybe post war. Like the sword. MikeR
