  1. -another, HIRATA from MMA
  2. There were two currents of cloisonne art during the Meiji period: one traditional since the Edo period which includes doro-shippo, and another which started anew under the direction of western technicians (e.g.,Gottfried Wagener). The two styles have run concurrently through Meiji, Taisho, Showa, were revived during the post war era and continue to be produced. The tsuba presented here are in the doro-shippo style, anyone seeing clear bright color needs to calibrate their monitor. -S-
  3. Patination looks as it should. AOK. -S-
  4. Great find Peter! That's one I somehow missed, you would think, with all the time I've spent on the site I'd have come across it.....shame on me. Cheers, -S-
  5. Uchi uke oui! Oddly, I think I miss Nosferatu! -S-

  7. Ken/Malcolm, The photos were here! Mawashiuke appears to have changed his avatar, in editing his post the pics appear to have mysteriously disappeared. -S-
  8. Stephen, FK miles beyond the general muck, it's quite a good example...Kozuka looks very promising as well. -S-
  9. Dave, If this material is of a suitable length, appearance and dimension someone should certainly give it a go. -S-
  10. Inexpensive enough, just keep in mind it could easily cost as much, or more should you need professional help to make it work for your sword. Good luck, -S-
  11. Eric, If this is what you want have at it. Making it fit your sword can incur additional costs you have not considered, be aware. BTW, what is the price? -S-
  12. Eric, Items of this poor quality and condition need no additional comment. I respectfully suggest that you defer a Katana purchase until you have acquired more knowledge of the subject. The time to go "all in" is after YOU can make a reasoned judgement concerning whatever item you may be considering.....and not before then. Enjoy Japan, soak in all the wonderous things, eat great food, immerse yourself in the facinating culture. On your return, put in your time on NMB, read, study, see, eventually you will earn the knowledge you need. -S-
  13. Somewhat reminiscent of the Japanese pattern referred to as KARAKUSA......it represents a spiraling vine. -S-
  14. ????????????????? -S-
  15. Arnold, Your post should read U.S. penny was 100% copper from 1793 to 1857. Typo no doubt. -S-
  16. He's been made aware of the fact several times now Jean, perhaps this time will stick! -S-
  17. Hilarious! -S-
  18. Didn't realize he was copper, that's unusual. I'll keep my fingers crossed for their return. -S-
  19. Maybe you should start using POP UP ads to alert people to certain ongoing things, such as this, on NMB. Just kidding but..... -S-
  20. Chris, A Namazu and Karashishi theft in one post, outrageous! I don't wish to rub salt in the wound by saying how attractive they look, but I must....hopefully they will show up soon. -S- p.s.- I liked the items, not the circumstances.
  21. NOSFERATU. -S-
  22. Agreed Chris, Thats why I felt the patterns of the clouds on the Ura are intentionally made to portray, what look to me like Somen. -S- p.s.- I assure you, this is a completely sober observation Grev.
  23. Omote.
  24. Does anyone see grotesque faces in these clouds, or am I imagining things ?
