Hi, This side of the tang is not mei,but date. Autumn,1938. Is this sword Mantetsu sword(Koa Isshin sword)? Can you post a pic of other side of the tang.

Hi, Brian, I think that this scroll is not a copy of [Kanzan Oshigata](4 scroll Oshigata book by Sato Kanzan). This scroll is about 8 meters in the total length,and writing 10 swords that is written near an original size. The existing sword(Sukezane,Meibutsu Inaba Go), a sword that is already burnt down(Meibutsu Hachiya Go and Kii Go ), and the lost sword(Meibutsu Honjo Masamune) are written in the scroll. Now, I am researching this scroll .

The mei also appears a photo of Tachi-sword " Ono " on page 130 on [Modern Japanese swords and swordsmiths: from 1868 to the present] by Leon Kapp. And He used "Ono" on Tachi sword on Shinsakuto Exhibition. http://www.tousyoukai.jp/19th/index.shtml

A photo of Ogura Soemon,Albert Nakayama, Honami Kosonon appears together on page 86 on this book. Ogura(Amiya) Soemon is left of Albert Nakayama.

Thank you very much for the link. Recently, I obtained the scroll written "Honjo Masamune". This is not Oshigata but a hand-writing. The writing of the temper-line is written the feature of Masamune sword well very much though I have not believe this drawing 95%.

Especially, it is very regrettable that Honjo-Masamune, Hotarumaru and Botanzukuri-tanto(koshigatana) have been not found yet. Botanzukuri-Koshi-gatana-mount was a national treasure though the value of Tanto blade is low. This Botanzukuri-Koshigatana-mount is very very gorgeous mount (Nanbokucho era).

Hi, Treasure hunter Stephen, :D Aoso, Iesuke家助 (The pre-war Kokuho,Tachi) was returned from U.S,. However, because the price was too high, former owner(Shinto shrine) was not able to be bought it, in this case. Afterwards, another Japanese had bought it in Japan. Maybe,Japanese government had made the lost national treasures list(sword) that had been written in English in around 1950. I have not seen it yet.

Hi, Nice blade! His photograph appears on [ Dai Nippon Token Shoko Meikan] on page 121. There are some patterns of signature of Tomomaro blade. 1. Thin line signature like attached photograph. 2. Thick line signature. 3. Shosho signature(thick line). 4. big size signature.

Hi, Mr.Clancy, Additional information. Anyway, the phrase (parents always be with you) for additional-mei(soemei) of the tang is very unusual. A very short essay of a person(polisher) who had carved the phrase to sword tang for the first time appeared on [Art Craft Sword Jaurnal]( Token Kogei, 刀剣工芸/pub,1941 #80 ). The summary of this essay is: This polisher received a small paper which the phrase(parents always be with you) was written by the principal of school for his son, and carved on the tang the phrase. He wrote that he was impressed when he saw this phrase because most additional-mei(soemei) were political slogans and bravery-slogans. ----------------------- because this essay was written(Nov,1941) before the date of your sword(January, 1942),I guess that this phrase was carved for the tang when a reader of this essay order for a sword for his son. Famous swords researcher was writing that he had not seen this phrase until that-time by the next issue. Very unusual additional-mei(soemei),I think. Sorry poor my English.

I think this Akihide sword is a good sword. But, i understand the reason why AOI feels the mei unreliable. The reason: 1. *Saku* or *kinsau* or *Saku kore*(made,respectfully made,made by) is not carved for end of the mei on the tang(excluding Tanto). 2.Mei is not carved for the Mine side on the Tang in an orderly manner(also Ura-mei( date)). 3.Ura-mei(date) and mei(Omote) on the Tang is not start the same positions. ------------- A lot of Tang oshigata of Akihide are recorded in the book(attached photo). [The man who revived Japanese sword two times].
