    Lots of these pattern 1914 parade dress swords was made by Suya. Look for the stamp on the guard. The saya could be sharkskin on wood or leather on wood.

    I know nothing about You Peter thats why I asked. On original kaigunto’s the kabutogane, fuchi ,kuchigane ,ashi ,shibakiki and ishizuke was made by 2 sides solded together. Sakura was applied afterwards on kabutogane and ishizuke. This way of making the fittings is not present in the fakes.

    On military swords hole skin is used, both ray and shark. The shingunto in the thread has full wrap rayskin saya.

    Thats not navy, but forestry. Heres a rare large size navy dirk and a rare meiji-Taisho period dirk for compare.

    Someone did a bad repair job on the handle. Does the wood look new?But thats a Very nice blade.

    Easy sword to bend, its just a metal stick without hamon.

    Does the gunto have a lock clip? Maybe post-war mounted. I wouldnt relie on a thin strap as a tassel, it has to be mounted onto the wrist. Do You have a picture of it? Heres one more period photo

    They are for the kaigunto. Its a lock strap.
