  1. Hello, Does anybody know if an English translation of the items in this year DTI catalogue is available as I just can't seem to get my hands on it this year (probably because their web site has been reshuffled). Many thanks for your help Paul
  2. Many thanks Carlo, the book you mention is : Zusetsu Nihontô Taizen II (Encyclopedia of the Japanese Sword) 図説・日本刀大全 2 Thanks also to you Markus, now I know where to look. Did anyone say what a fantastic ressource NMB is ??
  3. Hello, In one of Robert Haynes' articles he refers to a koshirae (itomaki no tachi ?) that used to belong to Sakanoue Tamuramaro (9th century) that still features its original iron tsuba. I believe that the sword and its koshirae now belong to the Kiyomizu-dera. Haynes further states that this iron tsuba is illustrated in many publications. Can someone by any chance point me towards one of the publications ? Many thanks for your time & help Paul
  4. Luca, It would seem that this hako-gaki was done by Torigoe San. The square red seal could mean that it was authenticatd in Japan The bird-style kaô with (what I believe to be ) '2 ticks' means that it is a 2nd class pre-Edo item You can find more information in the Haynes Auction Catalogue #7 Paul
  5. Very nice FK Pete, thanks for sharing. Mino seem to pop up in my mind... I wonder who actually made these kirimon, if it was actually the tsuba-shi or if the smith simply popped down to the local 'spare-parts' shop and purchased them...something to ponder on. Take care P

    Paris Exhibition

Piers, the teppô is a 100 momme ! The signature mentions the name of the school, the owner, the gunsmith, the inlayer and the stock maker. Circa 1810. For the exhibition I recommend that you start at the Hotel d'Heidelbach (150m to the right of the Guimet Museum), you can buy your ticket at a vending machine (credit cards only). Then proceed to the Guimet Museum, 4th floor On your way out purchase your copy of the catalogue Cross the road to the Palais de Tokyo for the final part The ticket (if I understand correctly) is valid for 2 days Paul

  12. Not at all Ford. There exists a small group of iron tsuba with iron inlay and gold nunome zôgan that are attributed to the (Ko-)Shôami.
