  2. I have this tsuba that is on my Wakizashi and I would like to know possibly the age of it and maybe what school produced this style of tsuba. It also has a signature but it might be pretty hard to see but if someone is able to read it and translate it I would really appreciate it.

  7. Code is one thing... pappers are the other. How you want convince that piece of iron in package have more then 100 years? Simple hts code is not enough. Even imitations can have mei with old date.
  8. I believe it says: 嶽家劍法 (something like "Yue family sword fighting style"), where Yue refers to the Chinese Song dynasty general Yue Fei (嶽飛) who was known for his martial prowess.
  9. Yes I have come across that website and I am pretty sure that they operate out of Hawaii which is where I am located.
  10. A friend suggested I do a book like the Montgomery Collection "The Art of Tsuba"- not a bad book. Only downside was it was compiled after he died - sobering thought! AI says: The image is a humorous depiction related to a fictional entity called "Spartancrest," which appears to be a bookstore or a book-related organization, indicated by the text "Please buy more books" and the person reading a book at the base of the headstone. Wow, I always wanted to be fictitious!

  12. That sounds like my dream trip. One day when I'm retired. I did have few opportunities about 5-7 years ago while my son was stationed there. I was never able to get the timing down. My loss, but probably saved me a TON of money. I know Tariffs were brought up several times. HTS Code 9706.00.00.00 is confirmed as the correct U.S. tariff classification for importing antiques over 100 years old, including Japanese swords over 100 years old. You should be fine as long as you document correctly for the swords trip home.
  13. You shouldn't pay any tariffs HTS Code 9706.00.00.00 is confirmed as the correct U.S. tariff classification for importing antiques over 100 years old, including Japanese swords over 100 years old. That is the code on the books.

  21. Alec, I’m on a guitar forum. There’s repeated complaints about bad experiences with items sold in Facebook. I don’t know what it’s like for swords and I can’t see this blade but you could take your money to a reputable dealer or buy from the sales section on here.
  22. Was told this is Chinese seal script, can anyone translate?
  23. Let’s start with the far right, an address… “碓水郡”, 坂本町, 群馬懸” (Usui gun, Sakamotomachi, Gunma ken?) Not sure about the kanji after Gunma… And there is “左藤” (Satou). Probably a name… It’s late this evening, so I’ll leave the left two columns for someone else 🥱
  24. I would want to see less talking about the smith and his family, and more details about the sword itself.
  25. yes this is a katana i think both are good starter swords, both have papers.
