PNSSHOGUN Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 Does it come with a complimentary eye wash kit? 3 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 Well, the blade might be a repurposed broken-off piece of a longer blade. Look at the thickness of the NAKAGO. It does not seem to be one of those newly made tourist TANTO blades in my opinion, but we are only looking at photos for a guess. 2 Quote
Hector Posted December 18, 2025 Author Report Posted December 18, 2025 Hey fellas! I wasn't actually interested in this thing! I just didn't want to be the only one cursed not to be able to unsee it. 😬 2 Quote
reinhard Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 I like it. Workmanship and patina of the koshirae are pointing to Meiji or Taisho era. Although not of high level craftsmanship it is of Japanese origin, way too good to be Chinese. The blade and its particular shape is of no interest here. The package once made a nice gift on a special occasion. A bride's gift for her new husband at their wedding for example. reinhard BTW: Not all blades made in Japan were meant to be Nihon-to for samurai. Just for consideration before posting mischievous comments. 1 1 Quote
flemming Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 I see on ebay that another of these is being offered. It is apparently in a Toad Theme. I find it peculiar that I have not seen one of these type ever before now. The toad theme item appears to be Japanese, since the level of workmanship to produce it seems above the Chinese offerings, similar to the blade of this discussion. As a long time collector, I am puzzled by these, since they must be some sort of reproduction!? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/365786805403?_skw=sword+morikuni+kongohyoe+moritaka+tanto&itmmeta=01KDG5VV8WXXQ94F1Z8QV8K5KB&hash=item552a97b49b:g:hZsAAOSwNydn64VV&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1d9zCpwjtNWHlFamxbvJ4G%2BoczlU%2BTLLEJCUuIgKELTYZDJxxGEVBe8uPaKR4OQtETKQc7X6jYlLbWYk6g0BK8fTuXRVJYZ5BYsKXC72v1aCc0%2BBOZNpuVZiP0%2FY%2FbhAgt7SVnucUv%2FiUOomn6ESIcs%2F%2BQZzVJSQEjCXT0qpD6w4qLgyxD5BNtSr3hN8I5G64d7g%2B5YOoB0SDbPnp51IqYxfeUc60NDa%2B2KTJr%2BGSpylYj0%2Bz%2B%2FLCMy872ivEMhJNl4e11UPkYqR9f0WZ68LkmG|tkp%3ABk9SR86074XsZg 1 Quote

It's contemporary mass-produced Chinese junk. Ebay used to be absolutely stuffed with them. Meanwhile... 'way too good to be Chinese' indicates you're not up to speed with what can come out of China - Quote
reinhard Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 There is a difference between Japanese folk-art and Chinese junk. One is the blueprint for the other. Since Chinese fakers are still operating on a shitty level as far as imitating advanced Japanese objects are concerned, they are focussing on simpler objects. I might be wrong, but the prawn-koshirae has a different quality than the toad and lotus crap. reinhard 1 Quote
reinhard Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 "Just for fun, here is a micro tanto. I havn't yet seen one so detailed and wonder about its origins." Don't believe anything you come across in the web. What is this "micro-tanto" made of and how was it made? reinhard Quote

Made in a studio in south China. I’m in touch with the artist(s) if you’re interested in acquiring one. Quote
