Trolling Buyee for another tsuba w/ blossom on stream or air.

Hard to find any more.

Ran across this little guy, sucker for moons and branches, the bird was a plus. For S&G i threw a low sniper bid and forgot about it.

Woke to notice id won.

Not super stoked over it but I've never had a rectangle tsuba so what the hey. Ive won worse before lol

I was really close to bidding on that one too Stephen but alas I put my money towards a different one.  I'm a fan of rectangular and square tsuba which is why it caught my eye in the first place.  I was thinking the bird was a kingfisher?  I wonder why a lot of tosogu has the birds with not much of a tail.  I see it often.

Yeah... A bird species that depends on flying but was born without a tail would be an easy prey for a cat and probably shouldn't reproduce with that genetic fault anyways. I still wonder why tosogu often depicts birds with not much of a tail though.

Not trying to sell anyone on a theory. That was just my first guess because of the lack of long legs that would typically accompany a crane/egret but I admit the head crest does look more like that. Also there are varieties of more simplistic color variations of kingfishers.

Nice chunky iron, unusual sugata, and good shape of hitsu ana.

Much to enjoy in the scene. Although egrets (with that distinctive white backfeather) are mostly seen flying or standing in water or (flooded) rice paddies, they do nest in trees. But that spot there on the branch is a position that any kingfisher would envy!

Egrets and a Night Heron - both have very short tails - keeps their bottom drier! :)

Stephen I love the rectangular shape as well, I have a few - hard to come by.

You are having the same luck as me with the snipe bids - I put a few low ones in lately and they came through, watching an auction I almost always miss out! :dunno:

Small chunky bird sitting on a branch over a stream……kingfisher gets my vote.  Wings spread out….could be drying off? Not sure it’s big enough or elegant enough for an egret/heron if the design is to scale. It’s a tsuba that makes you smile, I like it.

I like the thick chunky solid look of the tsuba. Peaceful bird sitting calmly waiting for his next meal. Top left looking like it will clean up a bit to show the moon peeping out from behind the clouds. Think you'll like this one.
