chameloon Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 I have my eyes on this blade: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Katana-Japanese-antique-sword-made-by-Kanemitsu-Kamakura-period-69-9cm-blade/265114032740 For a signed Kamakura blade, I found the price to be really appealing and right in my budget...Is it a legit bargain, or there are flaws I wasn't able to spot? Thanks for your help! Laurent, newbie Quote
Katsujinken Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 Well, it’s a blade. And it has a signature. The rest? ... Quote

Stefan Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 A blade with serious flaws and it is not kamakura I do think. Quote
JH Lee Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 I concur that it is not a Kamakura piece. But the ware aren't too terrible, and it's in good polish for what it is. Even the one by the edge isn't hagire (I don't think). That said, there are better blades for more reasonable prices being offered by the dealers who post on NMB. Quote
PietroParis Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 I know nothing about blades, but one thing I would ask myself is why a quality blade currently located in Tokyo does not have papers. 2 Quote

Rivkin Posted April 11, 2021 Report Posted April 11, 2021 Ara nie is something quite uncommon in Kamakura period; there were some smiths who forged in nie, but none with such hamon, so I would say its safe to say its Muromachi. Nice blade, lots of ware, signature is poorly photographed to the point that its difficult to resolve first kanji. If its Mino Kanemitsu, it probably has decent chance to paper. Otherwise - may be not. Quote
Jwrussell Posted April 11, 2021 Report Posted April 11, 2021 Not something I would pay that price for. There are better blades available from trusted vendors. Quote
