DTM72 Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 I just cannot seem to find the second character in any of my books or online references. Sorry, but this is the best pic I have from my phone at the moment. I can take a better one when I get home from work. Thanks to all, you are much appreciated! Quote

Ray Singer Posted October 20, 2020 Report Posted October 20, 2020 Definitely Kanetsuna. See examples showing the TSUNA kanji below. https://www.aoijapan.net/tanto-kanetsuna-saku-seki/ https://www.aoijapan.net/tantou-kanetsuna/ https://www.aoijapan.net/katana-ikeda-kanetsuna-saku/ https://www.Japanese-sword-katana.jp/未分類/1610-4023.htm 3 2 Quote
uwe Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 Indeed! Written, the right radical “岡“ appears decomposed and “closed” on the bottom with an stroke. Lesson learned..... Thanks Ray and Moriyama san! 1 Quote
Moley Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 Hi Guy's, Does this help ? I also have a Kanetsuna Gunto. (Or do I ? ) Gwyn Quote
DTM72 Posted October 22, 2020 Author Report Posted October 22, 2020 Moley, The tanto I am working with is well before the Showa time frame so hard to match the two kanji from vastly different eras. I can say that the way the Showa smith chiseled the "tsuna" is similar to the mei in question. Thanks for your input. Quote
