Nobutaka Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 Here's some before/after photos of work that Ford has done for me over the years, for which I am eternally grateful. We are indeed lucky to have this world class artisan to help us. (I used Tamiya masking tape to firmly secure the kogatana in the kozuka, easy to use and easy to remove without leaving any residue). 7 Quote
kyushukairu Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 * edited admin * I always use Richard Adams for repatination and recommend you use him in the future: edandemm@aol.com On the topic of Ford, whatever happened to the book on Japanese Metalwork which he proposed in 2014? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/525883510/Japanese-metalwork-technique-by-ford-hallam Quote
Babu Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 I'm on the fence as to whether this new look is indeed what the artist originally anticipated. I would imagine that he knew what form of aged degradation might occur with the materials he used. Without trying to be too controversial as I know fords an absolute artisan I think I personally prefer the more aged look to shiny new. Quote
Surfson Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 I think that they look quite nice, well done Ford. Quote
kissakai Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 I've had a few restored by Ford This example is the most dramatic and was worked on by Ford and Kevin whilst Kevin was in England This was done a few years ago and the colour had mellowed just as Ford said it would Quote
Brian Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Love that. What was the story with the extra material on the tsuba that was removed? 3 Quote
kissakai Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Ford had no idea what the crud was but it took some shifting Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 I kept switching between images, Grev, not sure I was looking at the same tsuba! Very well done on yours, & on the top ones, too. Who is "Nobutaka?" Quote
