Geraint, collectors like Shamsy, Neil, John, Bruce and other honorable collectors normaly look often in the military thread. They had much more experience with the so called island swords. I will not go wrong with calling it a fake sword because i had no experience with that kind of militaria.

Like you said, Chris, pictures of the tip of the blade, temper line would help give a definitive judgment on that one.

Sorry Samantha, I don't think there is any doubt it is a fake, not anywhere near wartime.
If it is any consolation, many collectors start out with something like this. The trick is to get it out of your mind, and save up for something better.

The false patina tells me this sword has little true age or wear, but has been artificially darkened and then rubbed clean in places to make it look old. Everything else screams fake, so no difference to the other opinions here.
