Mismatched quality?

Ken,

obviously same theme, but the quality is difficult to judge for me with only one photo. Certainliy different materials; SHIBUICHI KASHIRA vs. iron FUCHI with copper decoration.

While westerners notions about matching items in TOSOGU may differ widely from Japanese taste, I think that FUCHI and KASHIRA - if a matching set - are mostly of same materilal and, if possible, from the same hand.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to recognize Eric's photography, isn't it? Here's the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/19th-C-SUPERB-HIGO-OCTOPUS-FUCHI-KASHIRA-Japanese-Sword-Tsuba-Menuki-Kozuka/283832328580

The fuchi octopus is exquisite, in my Western eyes, while the kashira looks...plain & not well-done. So, is it a difference in cultures, or do they really look dissimilaar?

Hello

It is obvious the fuchi is in shibuishi and the kashira in shakudo. Based on that I thinks it is quite Strange that a "matching set" don't use the same materials !

Also, look at the eyes on both. Not the same technic used.

So, for me it same the Octopus theme, but not a Matching set / not the same maker.
