Hi guys. Firstly i would like to thank Wim V and particularly Steve M and Moriyama san for their tireless efforts in

translating our posts. I have just had a translation by these guys in the translation page.

This is the only tsuba i have with papers and wondered  what percentage of your collections have papers.

Regards

All my pieces except 1 are papered by NBTHK. Commercially it's the best approach, otherwise it will be 2nd guessed when trying to sell off later. Obviously this only makes sense starting from a certain price range.

Personally i have never worried to much about papers for tsuba. Swords would be different but with tsuba i think it is easier to judge the workmanship. Obviously not so easy if the work is hi quality and signed with a big name.

Most of my tsuba do not have papers, partly since it is not cost effective to get papers for the typical Hozon or TH level tsuba.  Perhaps 15% have papers in my collection.

56% of my tsuba have (NBTHK) papers. Of these I had only submitted 3 myself, and those were for TokuHo. The 3 were so nice I thought they deserved a high level quality confirmation. Of the 3, two came back what I knew them to be, the 3rd I was a little disappointed by the NBTHK not stating what I thought was obvious (they papered to "Akasaka", not "ko Akasaka"). It still is ko Akasaka, but now with a TokuHo.

The vast majority of signed pieces simply for signature validation and future sales. For mumei there is not much use unless it is an important piece etc.
