SajoSeif Posted February 29, 2020 Report Posted February 29, 2020 Ok! Selling for a person I know, he originally got the sword in Japan. It's a tachi in koshirae signed 備前長船住幸光 Bizen Osafune ju Yukimitsu, and dated August Oei 2. NOT papered. It has horimono carvings on both sides of the blade Nagasa around 72cm Moto-haba: 3 cm Saki-haba: 18.5 mm Moto-gasane: 6.5 mm Saki-gasane: 4 mm Sori: 2,2 cm weight of the blade is around 700g I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Honestly: The polish is in BAD condition, it seems like an amateur tried his best and even then didn't finish the job properly but stopped midway through thinking: "Ah whatever...." The horimono carvings you should judge for yourself. The tachi koshirae are pretty nice, the laquer is intact nothing is loose and wobbely. The signature... I'm not sure about it actually... But nevertheless: Item is SOLD! Edit regarding the sale: I'm sorry if anyone got offended by the way the sale went through I was absolutely overwhelmed by all the messages (and being at work at the same time) and also had to keep in mind customs/shipping and so on which in the end my friend has to pay for, not me. It was absolutely not my intention to start any auction whatsoever. 2 Quote
16k Posted February 29, 2020 Report Posted February 29, 2020 Too bad I don’t have the money. Even if Gimei and imperfect, it is still a very attractive price for a still quite attractive sword. Quote
SajoSeif Posted February 29, 2020 Author Report Posted February 29, 2020 True, it's a pretty blade and the koshirae are nice too. Quote
Greg F Posted March 1, 2020 Report Posted March 1, 2020 It would be nice to see someone save this one and have it polished by a pro. Greg Quote
SajoSeif Posted March 1, 2020 Author Report Posted March 1, 2020 Thanks for so many PMs guys! Sorry I didn't answer many of them until now but I have to look through aaaalot and sort them by highest/lowest bidder. I will contact all of you once I have done so. Quote
BenVK Posted March 1, 2020 Report Posted March 1, 2020 I sent an offer at 6.53am this morning but have now been told that the current highest bid is 1700 euro. I didn't realise that members are allowed to run their own private auctions on this forum! Quote
SajoSeif Posted March 1, 2020 Author Report Posted March 1, 2020 I wrote "1500€ or best offer" down and people started sending me a ton of offers via private messages. I must confess that I didn't realize that it may have been "immoral" to accept the highest offers people would send me. As I said it was not intentional in any way to start some kind of "private auction" Item is now SOLD! Quote
Brian Posted March 1, 2020 Report Posted March 1, 2020 Actually, there is no rule against running a mini-auction. Or one saying a seller has to sell to the first offer of the asking price.Trust me, I hear back from people, and we would all be amazed at the number of deals that get done in private, or newcommers who get offers thrown at them. You guys are lucky to have such free access to pm's. Most forums do not allow it.That said, transparency is a good thing. So it may be best to say you will consider offers until X day, and then take the highest one.You may even want to update what the highest offer is. Your call, just be ethical. Hope people are asking questions and considering flaws, condition etc. 1 Quote
vajo Posted March 1, 2020 Report Posted March 1, 2020 It is free to the seller to sell on the highst price. I was offering a price that was lower. I could bid more its my choose. So feel free to bid the price that the sword is worth in your mind. Best luck with the sell. It is a nice package! Quote
SajoSeif Posted March 1, 2020 Author Report Posted March 1, 2020 Thanks Brian! You are right, I should have been clearer in a way by saying "consider offers until X day". Quote
BenVK Posted March 2, 2020 Report Posted March 2, 2020 Actually, there is no rule against running a mini-auction. Or one saying a seller has to sell to the first offer of the asking price. In my experience, most other forums, WAF etc don't allow this kind of selling which is why I was puzzled. Thanks for clarifying that it works differently here. Quote
raynor Posted March 2, 2020 Report Posted March 2, 2020 This forum is by far one of the best places worldwide to purchase nihonto and fittings outside of physical stores in Japan. Usually offers here are priced well into buyers market territory and you get a free scrutiny service through all the experienced and knowledgeable members here. I bought my first nihonto here through the forum and will most definitively get my second the same way unless something truly unique shows up from left field at the right time. Nice blade and good deal, just a pity people would do such a thing to a sword, I genuinely wonder what goes through some people's head sometimes. 2 Quote
