As mentioned in the gunto thread, I recently bought a gendaito for myself, made by Akitaka. I had some time to study and photograph it this evening, and he was an amazingly talented smith. Aside from mine and the sword sold by Moses I have not seen another example. I'm hoping with this thread that someone can point me to additional examples of his work.

Best regards,

Ray

Great blade from a great smith Ray! I love it. Micheal67 shows a blade from the same smith in the translation section, but unfortunately he shows no detailed pictures from the blade.

After reading Ray’s post I had to study mine again. While it’s true every dog has it’s day I find it hard to believe this smith had two exeptional days by ”accident”. Both Ray’s and my blades at least in my opinion shows very good workmanship. When viewing the blade I’m once again struck by the Hada and Jigane. The Hamon is also quite striking and very similar to Ray’s example so he must have had a good control of the process... As Ray I would be extremely interested of seeing additional examples.

Strongly agree. The workmanship is exceptional and reflects that he was gifted smith. Amazing that there are so few examples of his work. Reminds me of Yoshihara Kuninobu, I have only seen or heard of two examples of his work in 25 years, and both were incredible pieces. Perhaps Akitaka efforts were primarily to support more senior smiths within the Akihide group, and that is why his mei are so rare to see. I imagine there might be Akihide out there that show his hand.

I saw one today at a meeting if the dutch Token society. To bad I didn’t take pictures, but it also was a beautifull sword.
