Kmad Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Hi all I have opertunity to purchase the attached, These are all the photos I have and no other info Seller says the handle has not been off and knows nothing about item Cost would be 250 euro So from the v poor information what do you think, are the fittings of reasonable quality Even if the blade (of which I have no information on except that it has a blade) A friend found it in an antique shop they said the blade is not in great condition. But the person knows noth8ng about Japanese items I can buy it tomorrow and pick up on saturday or do you think it is just rubbish. So assume the blade is rusted and pitted am I getting something nice and of good quality from the images shown, the fittings to my eye look good I am a risk taker and if I loose a few euro 8 will at least gain some education Thanks Ken Quote
Grey Doffin Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Hi Ken, Buy it. It is real, probably late Edo or even Meiji koshirae, and worth the price even if the blade is poor quality. I doubt you'll lose money and may even make some if the blade is better than poor. But that's just my thoughts; others may know better. Grey Quote
Tanto54 Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Hi Ken, I agree with Grey. The fuchigashira and tsuba are not great but the menuki look decent. The tsukamaki is the kind that is usually done on better blades, so I think it is worth at least the asking price. Quote
16k Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 What bothers me is that gap between the Fuchi and the tsuba. Looks like a wood or leather seppa was added which would mean the blade doesn’t originally belong to The Koshirae. Still, as my fellow members said, not a huge risk taken and I’d go for it. Some tsuka go for the total price you’re paying on eBay, so you could probably recoup your investment easily. Quote
Kmad Posted March 31, 2019 Author Report Posted March 31, 2019 Hi All Thanks for the comments, The extra seppa does look wrong but it looks like the Menuki is in it for a while.i am not sure what is going on there As the saya is there I hope the blade is not completely written off. I will pay for it tomorrow and pick it up on Friday night or Sat. Morning Any more observations welcome. Ken Quote
Surfson Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 I wouldn't bother with it. The parts shown are not or barely worth 300 bucks, and, at least to me, have no appeal. Quote
Kmad Posted April 1, 2019 Author Report Posted April 1, 2019 Hi All Thanks Robert 300 bucks is around 250 euro so I suppose maybe that is all it is actually worth, so I am just getting it at retail value, the blade pictures might shes some light abet "bad light" on the item in question some pictures of the blade looks to be quiet butchered and re shapened any opinions again welcome Regards Ken Quote
