  1. I believe here is is I was looking at same a while back https://www.antiques....php?code=as1076a801 It says signed tang but no images Regards Ken
  2. Hi Daniel, I collect Ethnic swords and I think what you have is a nice interesting genuine piece, just not Japanese. When I said Chinese in my previous post I meant an Old Chinese genuine piece, I was going to bid on it myself but purchases some other items before the Shepards auction and changed my mind on bidding. I have an interest in Japanese swords and I presently have 3 swords and 1 Tanto all purchases in Ireland and only 1 at auction, the Tanto. If you look at my previous threads you will see what I have found! Keep well and maybe our paths will cross sometime I sent a PM if you want to reach out . Regards Ken
  3. I would think old Chinese but people who know a whole lot more will chime in soon I like your pictures better than Shepard's and might have bid on it You are in the correct forum to find out what it is either way, Regards Ken
  4. Hi Dan, I saw this at auction in Shepard's and wondered what it is, looking forward to finding out all about it I was guessing Chinese, but not a modern piece. Keep well, Ken, Kildare Based collector

    About me

Hi All, I have traded items with Peter and have been very happy with the transaction. After a very friendly Whats app conversation I sent him my item on a trust basis and he sent me his trade items at the same time with no issues at all. A very genuine guy. Welcome to the dealer section Peter. Regards, Ken
  6. Hi all, I am not a collector of Japanese swords (have 4 swords though, maybe i do collect them) but I have been happy to pay the Gold membership for last few years as it is just a small token of appreciation for the knowledge this forum has shared with me. So for anyone who has ever given me information on one of my intended or made purchases my gold membership is for you (but Brian gets the money ) Keep well and I will pay up again next time contribution time comes around as I have acquired a nice tanto on the back of you guys giving me freely invaluable information since my last payment. The response time you guys give would make user support in any other walk of live blush. Regards, Ken
  7. Hi All Were kamisori Razors made by sword blade smiths and if I were to buy this one would it clean up ok and how would/could you clean it. they seem like something that would be nice to add to my collection Also can anyone translate what is on the blade and how old do you think this example is Regards Ken
  8. Thanks John, It sold yesterday for 150 euro, I did not go on it as I have a few other auctions on the books that have more interest in . Regards, Ken
  9. Hi All Sorry for using up all my query questions, I will have to pay gold membership again when my subscription is up Can anyone tell me what this is, apple is in picture for scale, first picture Regards Ken
  10. Link to e bay shows seller has zero feedback and only ever sold one item.
  11. Hi All I have seen this unusual blade on a tanto, from the picture attached can any information be gleaned? seems to have a fuller and a double edge on the blade As for the rest of the assembly what lies beneath the duct tape is probably not good Thanks Ken
  12. Hi Alex. What price is the seller proposing, that will help determine if worth pursuing. Some sellers have inflated opinion of what they have and expect a large payment, I have been offered somewhat similar at a price of 3,000 euro and another at a price of 175 euro. (I bought one of these only) If you don't ask price you will never know, I dislike having to make offer first as you cant be a seller and a buyer. Some times you have to when doing so it is hard not to be cheap so pitch at what you ant to pay and see how the dealing goes. Best of luck Ken
  13. Hi Sam, Thanks for sharing the image and story. Congratulations on finding a partner who lets you look at swords on a honeymoon, probably more difficult than taking off from a float plane assembled on a submarine deck and making your way back, Impressive!! Regards and happy honeymoon to you both, Ken
  14. I am now leaning towards Korean myself so if this is off topic i apologies but it has tanto like elements. regards Ken
  15. Hi All Came across this, looks like a tanto but handle is wrong any help or guidance, Many thanks Ken
  16. Hi Brian No unfortunately it was 25 per knife in the picture, however I have managed to move on 30 or so of the knives already leaving me with 11 knives I like and am keeping In the end I think the Tanto will stand me at around 30 euro which I think is OK , I could probably double my money if i wanted to sell Regards Ken
  17. Hi All Thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me, a happy addition to my Japanese collection. I will have to renew my Gold membership again as pay back to this fantastic resourse. Keep well. Ken

  19. Thanks Geraint, Few others in the lot I like also but The Dirk and the Tanto were the special ones to me, I have a friend who collects bowie knives so he will have a few additions coming to his collection also . Can you let me know what is the writing on the blade of the Tanto means/signifies? Regards Ken
  20. Thanks all for the super fast response Got it with all these, this was the only picture to go on for the auction with this description A LARGE COLLECTION OF KNIVES together with a 19th Century Chinese sword in sheath, etc. so I took the gamble. There is a very nice Rondell dagger for me to discover more about circled in red but off topic for this forum

Well thats images for now ask if more need to be provided The habaki seems to be of 2 parts one silver and one blued there is some damage to the Saya and the metal is filthy The white “cabochon” seem to be stone of some sort Blade is 25 cm and handle another 11 cm looks to have been over cleaned, sepa are not moving from the tsuba Rushing on the photos so sorry about this I like the Tanto so any ideas or opinions welcome, cost a pittance so dont mind giving me the bad news. overall theme of hearts on the decoration and metal work Regards, Ken

  24. Hi All I have just purchased a job lot of knives, 40 in total so lots to study, mostly hunting knives but some ethnic. In the job lot we have this Tanto I will reveal what I have purchased after I receive the items but can anyone start me off with what style of Tanto this is. No description from the auction house on what I have purchased and there is scabbard damage Its a gamble but that's how all part of the opinions welcome but I have accepted it might be a bust of a purchase . Regards Ken
