Guntoguy05 Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Has anyone seen an oval brass Tsuba like this? 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Its the middle tsuba piece to the three-piece imperial navy sword tsuba I think.. http://www.katanacenter.com/PICTURES%20KODOGU%20Tsuba%20Menuki/TSUBA%20MENUKI%20Pictures/122%20Tsuba%20Naval%20and%20seppas/Japanese%20Imperial%20Navy%202GM%20Tsuba%20and%20seppas%20(6).JPG Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Chris, the kaigunto don't use latches, and therefore wouldn't have the holes for it. Shamsy or Stegel have seen it all and could tell you for sure. Quote
IJASWORDS Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 I probably have 5 Kai-GUNTO with latches. Quote
BANGBANGSAN Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 You can check Stu's post on Warrelics http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/Japanese-militaria/ija-type-95-nco-sword-info-228172/ Quote
Dave R Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 I probably have 5 Kai-GUNTO with latches. And none of those latches are on the mune. That sort of latch position is pretty diagnostic of coming from an NCO sword. 2 Quote
Shamsy Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Yep, it does look distinctly 95 style, doesn't it... I don't recall seeing any brass tsuba like this. It niggles at something so I'm not 100% certain though. My memory is brilliant. I had a look at my swords and they were all (or at least appeared to be) iron, so if another material was used, it would have to be unusual. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. I'll have a think and get back to this if I can put my finger on it. Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted January 13, 2019 Report Posted January 13, 2019 OK, learned something new today! Ha! However Dave’s point was the main point - only 95’s use top-latches (mune edge). 1 Quote
