Prewar70 Posted April 16, 2018 Report Posted April 16, 2018 What does this spot look like to you and how concerning is it? Of course the pics make it look much worse. Thanks. Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 16, 2018 Report Posted April 16, 2018 Hi James, It is not the kitae-ware itself but what it is bordering on which you may want to give consideration to. Those elliptical areas appear to be shingane, and the kitae-ware runs along the boundary between shingane and kawagane. This is something which is commonly seen in Hizen-to. Best regards, Ray 2 Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted April 17, 2018 Report Posted April 17, 2018 Not tremendously unusual, James, & if it's just happening in one area, then it's likely just the beginning of the outer steel (shingane) wearing thin to the software metal core (kawagane), just as Ray said. It's more of an eyesore than anything to worry about, but do try to look at the good points of your blade. 1 Quote
