Gakusee Posted September 21, 2017 Report Posted September 21, 2017 Yes, Jean, it is a different approach, which he calls "high and narrow" or something like that. I was talking about quality of website , illustrating what makes it exceptional (forgot to mention the informative blog, by the way) and not referring to the extent of merchandise ) Anyway, I wish both parties luck 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted September 21, 2017 Report Posted September 21, 2017 A few responses to NihontoCollector (apologies but on mobile cannot see names) and Stephen: - this is well-intended constructive criticism from people who have been using the site for 10-15+ years. We like what is there and wish it to succeed - our suggestions are gradually being implemented, which shows there is merit in what we are doing. We are highlighting aspects which can make it more user-friendly and practically usable - clearly, we have nothing better to do and we lack engaging topics to discuss, so we are jumping at this trivial opportunity to engage in a discussion (a self-effacing, semi-sardonic wake-up call to the community) A personal opinion here: Darcy'a Nihonto.ca website for me beats everyone else hands down: - no one matches the hundreds of razor-sharp high-quality photos there - his essays are extensive, informative and full of insights (e.g. how many of the smith's other blades have made it to Juyo and beyond) - translations and phonetic transliterations of sayagaki - user-friendly, uncluttered, straightforward and clear - solid archive of study materials Well, I personally think that is two different cup of teas. Darcys website is highly educational. But I am looking at nihinto.com just from the perspective as a buyer / dealer website and as such I do not expect any education information but simply judge it from the point of design and functionality. A Nihonto website will list very few items in general (< 100) so all I want is to sort them by basic category and price and get some good images. In termes of design I personally like nihontoantiques.com and nihonto.com ... both use modern - probably Word press driven - CMS. they appeal to me. Quote

b.hennick Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 I miss seeing which items are new items. The newsletter seems to not be in operation. Perhaps it will indicate which items are new ones. Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 The homepage is now in a newsfeed format, so that any new additions to the site (swords, fitting, articles, etc) will appear at the top of the feed. Each item has the date it was added to the site. This newsfeed replaces the 'site updates' list Fred previously had at nihonto.com/itemsale.html. Best regards, Ray 2 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 28, 2017 Report Posted September 28, 2017 if you dont have touchscreen you really cant expand them. Wrong. Hold down your Control key, & then use your mouse wheel to enlarge any page. Just be aware that you're blowing up pixels, rather than really zooming in, but it's better than nothing, assuming you have a high-resolution screen. Quote
