Help needed with signature

Hi, i am new here and i could use some help with a signature, it is being sold as Minamoto Kiyomaro and dated 1848.

It reminds me of the Old Japanese saying, for every 10 singed swords, 11 are fake. hehe

Very nice looking blade indeed. These osoraku tanto tend to fetch top money, something about the unusual shape maybe?

I would have to agree with Jacques. If genuine, it would probably have been sent for papers and would be very big $'s.

From the style of the pics, I would take a big guess that this is one of Mike's (Historian) auctions on eBay? Tend to start to recognise the style sometimes.

Brain, yes it is on Ebay, but the sellers name is komonjo and he only has 27 feedbacks, but who knows it might be Mike?

 

He wanted $2,500 buy it now with no takers, way too cheap if it was real IMO and that is why i posted it here. BTW i agree about the papers

Ah. I was right

Mike is also Historian(333?) and uses Komonjo for his consignment items.

He knows what he is selling, and will tell you if it is genuine.

Decent seller, and a very gimei sword.

Agree with all of the above. Gimei almost any way you look at it. (Including the one glaring mistake)

Hi hermes, I came in late , so please disregard if this is already pointed out - but the character in the date given to you as 8 (ie 8th month) is actually Gan, meaning first, beginning month. So your date is actually 1st month of....

A minor correction for a typo (maybe);

Yokohama -> Yokoyama

I misread the mei, It was done correctly for you Gan Nen, hachi gatsu beggining year, eighth month. My mistake sorry:-(
