My New Ireko Shirasaya By John Tirado

Just received these pictures of my new ireko shirasaya and two pice solid gold and solid silver habaki, made by John Tirado.

What material are the hinges?  Buffalo Horn?  What about the keeper mechanism? Ivory? Very impressive shirasaya!  My hat is off to you for commissioning this work and sharing it here.

The hinge is made of water buffalo, in fact all parts which are black are made of it.

The white parts are made of legal preban elephant ivory.

I don't have any more pictures of the habaki right now. I asked John for some, and I will post them here as soon as I receive them.

 

The sword is now going directly from John to Bob Benson for Shiage polish.
