Stephen Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 he must think highly of showato check the nakago http://www.aoijapan.com/katana-noshu-seki-ju-hattori-masahiro-saku-2 Quote
AndyMcK Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 Hard to say straight from the photos but is it a showato? Even with the stamp or water quenched and stamped to be approved for field?? But like said, makes you wonder on the rating system. Antti Quote
Stephen Posted March 20, 2016 Author Report Posted March 20, 2016 Yes its Showato it has a seki stamp Quote
Brian Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Agree it's a Showato. Even without the stamp, the hamon is unconvincing. He is emphasizing the jigane though, which is odd since it doesn't really blow you away.. Quote
AndyMcK Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Do we know how he is moderating the individual sales adds? Sometimes it looks like there might be few people making them. If not, it is really quite strange for him to appreciate showato so highly... Antti Quote
Kronos Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 As rankings like this are comparative for age/school maybe it's just a really good showato? Lol 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 if you this is odd, you should have seen the ISHIN MANTETSU blade he sold. just like the high price on Yasukuni blades, its just there because the western market. they are most likely having a giggle to them selves, as the more they sell, the more they ship out side of Japan. obiwanknabbe Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 heres another isshin mantetsu for sale in Japan. http://www.e-sword.jp/katana/1610-1046.htm they must really be changing there minds, on what they will allowed to be sold inside Japan now. $5200 for a Mantetsu.. Wow... I paid $125.00 USD for mine... SCORE!!! I seem to recall Mr. Bowen comment in an earlier thread that Mantetsu swords have only been known to paper on rare occasion (like this one has), making a legally owned example a hot commodity... thus the high price. Darcy Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 I don't think he is very much involved in the website. He's an older guy and he has several staff in his shop, one of whom I seem to recall tapping away at a computer. It's possible that the Jo-jo saku comment is just a mistake carried forward when copying and pasting from a template. They do this stuff fast, time is money. 1 Quote
Surfson Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 Either that or it's like Lake Wobegon - all swords are above average! Quote
Stephen Posted March 28, 2016 Author Report Posted March 28, 2016 Think Darcy has it, a lot of cutting and pasting going on, many of his sales have similar errors. Too many shortcuts 1 Quote
Stephen Posted March 29, 2016 Author Report Posted March 29, 2016 Did i miss this? Highest Bid: ¥431,000!!!!! Quote
