Prewar70 Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Seller sent me these pictures so I haven't been able to go look at it in person. I need some help on the translation but I'm very curious. Thanks. Quote
Shugyosha Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Hoanh, But it's signed and dated. It has to be genuine. Quote
Prewar70 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 Do you think there's more to this sword than the gimei? Age appearance of the tang, shirasaya, etc.? Quote
hxv Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 James, The shirasaya is so-so but will serve its purpose just fine. I can see the hamon and a full boshi, so that's good. On the other hand, the boshi is a bit thin, and I can't see much activity in the ha (or in the ji for that matter). So, over all, in my humble opinion, I would not get too excited. Regards, Hoanh Quote
Stephen Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 The sword looks fine, buy the blade not the mei...pending what hes asking Quote
Prewar70 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 Agreed. Hoping I can see more activity in person. What is it dated? Quote
SteveM Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 元徳二年正月十五日 Gentoku 2 (1330) January 15th, I think. Quote
Shugyosha Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Hi James, I think that you need to discount both the mei and the date as false. For me this looks like a shinshinto blade and if you are thinking of buying it I think you need to pay a price comensurate with a mumei blade from this period. Personally it's a bit difficult to see much hada but that would tie in with a shinshinto blade. I think you need to be sure that the hamon is intact but if that is the case then, subject to the price, I don't think that it's a dead loss. Quote
Prewar70 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 Hey John thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I asked the guy what he was hoping to get and he said $5k but was open to offers. I replied back that I think we are too far apart but said I'd be interested at $750, but depends on what it looks like in person. It is humorous how people come up with pricing. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Take a close look at the shinogi - to my eye it does not flow naturally to the kissaki. my guess would be the whole thing was reworked to look like Nambokucho Soshu and $750 is a generous offer mho -t Quote
Jean Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 I am not convinced by the nakago either, seems to have a curious shape to my eyes, perhaps it is the picture. I'll say pass... Quote
