  1. Hi Steve, Regarding your Kanetoshi, are you sure the polisher did not do a ha dori hamon? I recently had a window opened on an oil quenched late war showato (in order to know if the hamon was purely fake or real even if oil quenched, also it was free), and can tell the hamon is super weak but my polisher proposed me to do a keisho with ha dori.
  2. What about a more likely hamon done with stones, a kind of ha dori?
  3. I join John and Mariusz and confirm Kevin is a terrific guy to deal with. He has a real passion in what he does and is very skilled in restoration. A very keen man who takes time to answer to any questions with long and educated answers.
  4. Is it just me but on the third pic (the one of the tsuka) if you look at the left side of it it seems that the tsuka is lonely without the sword, I mean already removed.
  5. Oups! Sorry I just wanted to ask for pics of the tsuka!!! I wasn't expected all these yellow round guys to appear!!
  6. I do not think it is about the fittings, most likely the illusion for the bidders to win a blade fully traditionnaly polished. But it is not the case imho.
  7. Looks like a Showa22's sword. Same kind of acid cleaned blade.
  8. Keith, you made me laught a lot with your post. Thank you so much!!
  9. Maybe signed by one of his convicts sword makers? That is why the mei is different.
  10. Absolutely, daylight bulb. Furthermore it is much better than yellow light bulbs to enlight your home, once you are used to it you cannot get back to yellow light!
  11. Once I used white light bulb lamp and it worked very well. The white natural light enlights much better than yellow light so you do not need a flash, thus no reflection problem! It worked for me at least. Good luck Nic!
  12. I have been told that some of them with inscriptions on the nakago removed, passed shinsa with success, I think in Japan. However at that price I would prefer to have a RJT gendaito! :D I have the same Mantetsu and consider it as an elegant sword (of course I did not buy it at that rate! )
  13. Hi Mark, Yes it can be polished but it will cost you around 2000$. Never try to polish or sharpen it with anything, just live it like it is. "Let well enough alone"
  14. Determining if the date and mei were engraved by Amahide, his son Kanemune or his student Idetoshi would help to have an idea of its value. As many of us know, Amahide did not sign a lot of his swords himself, so the ones he did sign should be more expensive. One can verify this point thanks to Slough's oshigata book.
  15. I beleive these artificially aged swords come from the same chinese seller, he used to sell many of them. Please have a look at this one, many common with the one discussed here points to me. http://cgi.ebay.com/Real-Japanese-Milit ... 3f07d9fe67
  16. I did and can garantee everything was guenine, furthermore the signature had the same cheappy style.
  17. Maybe KANEYOSHI but I am not sure.
  18. Plenty of nice items to see there also, they are for sale it is not a museum, but worth definitely a look. http://www.espace4.com/ Metro Odeon
  19. It looks like anti rust steel, isn't 'it?
  20. Seems to be in good condition, maker might be be Kane something, I cannot see well the second kanji. Mass produced, not traditionnal more likely a sunobe to.
  21. Broken for sure, interestingly I do not know.
  22. And what about removing stamps (showa, seki gifu etc...) on nakago, is it a nonsense? To me no need to do so as stamp is part of the sword and its history but I do like to read members opinions about that. Thanks in advance to those who will express their point of view.
  23. That is true Grey, impossible to tell it was signed before. Amazing.
