  1. Yes yes Patrick, and a pretty good one I would say.
  2. Thanks Carlo. However recreate something (patina) in few days that took hundreds of years to appears still looks odd to me wheter done by a skilled expert. Of course I am nobody to tell. If possible I wish I could (probably many fellow members also! ) see before and after photos of a removed gimei.
  3. Grey, I asked some times ago to my togishi friend if a gimei signature should be removed or not. He said no, never touch a nakago wheter it is gimei. He added that the sword was made like this and should not be changed. Is it common to remove gimei signature? Proper trained togishi do that?
  4. BTW I think the correct name of this mount is Type 3 not Type 98.
  5. I agree with you Chris, it seems all of them are mass produced oil quenched sunobe to(almost all the same except for the mei). But those in semi rought lacquered saya seems to be of much better quality.
  6. Another Yoshichika with same stamp listed on Ebay this week: http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-WWII-Japan ... 27b93f75a9
  7. Thanks for your reply Joe. Yes patina must hides the core steel, you are totally right. However if someone has one which a visible core steel, I would love to see what it is looks like.
  8. Hi all, I was wondering when a blade is suriage if one can see the core steel of the blade at the extremity of the cutted nakago? It makes sense to me but as I do not own such a blade, does any owner can confirm or not please? Thanks
  9. Definitely not a Mantestuto!
  10. I would say buffed instead of chrome plated because it is easier to buff it. I cannot tell for sure weather it is guenine showato or not, please post photos of the mounts it will help us to conclude.
  11. I know these are difficult to find but.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT
  12. if tachimei i guess you can call them tachi and veci versa for katana.
  13. I think it is guenine, at least the tsuka is. So if the tsuka is original to the sword, the sword might be guenine.
  14. Why not asking for an appraisal here, on the forum? There are plenty of knowledgable people.
  15. I think your guess is the right one, KANEMUNE
  16. I agree with you Eric, a lot of money involved. It is why I guess seller wanted his investment back and possibly played with the bids to increase final price. However I do not think he will sell it a third time on Eb...
  17. I can not see that this sword was described as being "restored", it does not mention being polished, no mention of tang stamp or oil-water tempered etc. Ito, same and polish look like they were done yesterday to me.
  18. 45 bids and only 9 different bidders? "Item being relisted due to a O feedback non-payer" Yeah of course!!!
  19. 3501$ for restored showato??? I have a friend who bought a Yasukuni in good condition for that price. Really weird

    Burned Katana?

The nakago doesn't look like burned to "newbie forever" eyes. It shows just show natural patina. I would more look at the blade itself and the gueniness of the mei to evaluate the quality of the sword.
  21. I do like to try also but it seems that US sellers do not ship this product abroad. Does anybody know one that could ship Noxon to France? Thanks
  22. I found several Kunimitsu working during WW2 but cannot tell wich one is yours. CHUNSAI KUNIMITSU=SAIJO SAKU KOMIYA KUNMITSU=JOJO SAKU KIJIMA KUNIMITSU=CHUJO SAKU (RJT) SHIBATA KUNIMITSU=CHUJO SAKU (RJT) MIURA KUNIMITSU=CHUGE SAKU (RJT) IHARA KUNIMITSU=CHUGE SAKU MIZUTA KUNIMITSU=RJT KUNIMITSU=SEKI KAJI TOSHO I hope gendaito guys can help you!
  23. Hi I do not want to be a "bad tongue" also because I like jason's wakizashi, but isn't the back of the mune a bit small? I have been told that when the back of the mune is almost on the same line than the nakago, it could mean a quite tired sword. Is anyone know something about that? Thanks
  24. Hi David, I like the way you think about picking a good sword. I fully agree on any point.
