    Not a big deal if you damage the screws, they are just...screws. Then you can replace them (if destroyed) by wooden mekugi. Looks better to me and more "traditionnal".

    I beleive the last one you posted (9) (the one I said the handle is guenine) is a real gunto at least.

    It is only my guess but your older gentleman probably bought all these swords the past years (months?) on Ebay, thinking they were real, then realized they were all chinese fakes. He told you a nice story to sell you the swords as he knows no connoisseurs would be interested in them. My 2 cents point of view. Regards

    The one on photos 4 and 5 has a guenine Type 3 handle so maybe you should post more photos of this one, the rest is all rubish.

    OK then, and are they all oil quenched?

    Maybe not as beautifull as a true nihonto but could be better than a standard Seki showato...that is what I want to check. Even if it is a non sense for some it is probably worthy for others and I am sure someone out there has a fresh polished Mantestu!

    Thanks for the links but not exactly what I expected. I am looking for someone who sent his Mantetstuto to a good polisher to see what it looks like when this kind of showato is properly polished.

    Hé hé, yes Chris you are right! :D I could not say better! No I meant what is the meaning for the artist to create a tsuba with many nakago, some signed some not? Does this belong to a school style, an era or so? Thanks

    The kissaki is pitted otherwise unless a dirty blade, it seems quite healthy to mee. Any forging flaws (blisters etc...) that can be seen? The saya is completly dead.

    It seems that Toni is interested in buying gunto (regarding the fact he wanted to buy two chinese copies of ww2 Japanese swords). In that case, no need to save 5000$ for that, and yes it is a good idea to buy your first sword from a reliable memeber of this forum.

    If I can make one critic, it would be that Fred did not put the screws the fix the fittings. One can see than at least on the ishizuke (empty hole). Kevin has some for sale that can be gilded and this would be a nice final touch to your restoration project. My 2 cents

    I have never seen that king of marks as togishi signature. One learns every day!

    I am not sure of what I am going to say, but it seems that the habaki is too big and does not fit well the nakago. I would dare to add that the blade has been reshaped to fit the shirasaya and a second hole pierced in the reshaped nakago to fit the handle. I am often wrong (if not always!) but...
