  1. Hello Barry, That is a pretty good idea. I too saw them in museums and they looked nice. Thanks for the photo, nice design. Thanks Eric for the link, I saw it and the photos are nice too but always distrust a bit when it comes to chinese seller.
  2. Hi Thomas, For the same reasons I would not make a wooden one either, it will be amateur work thus not nice to look at.
  3. Hi gents, Anybody knows where this can be found? I mean a good quality one and not a standard swords stand, but something with katana kake style. Thanks
  4. By looking at the Facbook page, it seems that Mike Yamaguchi (Komonjo) is not very happy either of Mr Roush's commnication. :?
  5. NO SHU SEKI JU KANE TOSHI SAKU? I am really bad so probably not that.
  6. Hello Mike, Very nice sword. The polish looks good too, may we know who did it please? Thanks
  7. Hi,Bruno The mei says "Seki Kanekiyo saku kore". Exactly Morita, that what I meant! Thanks!
  8. Mino Kane kado saku kore?
  9. Thanks David, I know they are not special but as they were mass produced, by whom they were mass produced? I just would like to know if they were fittings approved and issued by the army like were Type 94/98/3 fittings. They are published in several gunto books that makes think they were also "official" gunto fittings. Also, I would like to know, if someone knows if they were the unique non military fittings made during the Showa era. http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~t-ohmura/gunto_037.htm Thanks
  10. Hi Thomas, I know they were mass produced but it was not my question.
  11. Hello, Were these bamboo and cherry blossoms patterns, the only two official army civilian patterns for army civilian employees swords? Is there a specific menuki pattern that should/must normaly match with them, like the usual gunto cherry blossom ones, or owners were free to choose any menuki style they wanted? PS: I think in the case of this auction, there were fake bids : 29 bids for 7 bidders means each bidders bidded 4 times.Or maybe these fittings are really sought after
  12. Indeed, Emura-to are a myth?
  13. If Emura himself cut all the mei but that 100 persons were involved in the swords forging, how is it reasonably possible to identify those forged by Emura himself?
  14. Hello Rich, Is it known for sure that Nagamitsu had helpers/apprentices? I know that for Emura it is sure.
  15. So we can assume that adding a date on the nakago was a requirement of the RJT program only, and that Nagamitsu did not put date on his nakago (at least very few) fo pesonnal taste when he was out of the RJT program ?
  16. Nagamitsu was RJT but his star stamped blades are very rare then? Strange. Anybody knows for how long he has been RJT?
  17. Does anybody knows the reason why Nagamitsu's nakago are almost never dated?
  18. 5 looks oil quenched, for the rest....I am not sure.
  19. Jacques, I think Chris meant that once a smith's blade passed the RJT rigid test, then the other blades this same smith provided during the following months were just visually inspected. This because the smith alreay proved his skills, no need to take the same rigid test for each blade.
  20. I know it is a showato, but this one looks pretty well made.
  21. Hi Mark, What about civilian gunto mounts? They are from WW2 so will match the age ofyour gendaito, and they have a traditionnal look. Not sure however if gendaito have ever been mounted in these mounts at that time... http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~t-ohmura/gunto_037.htm Regards
  22. He is aslo copying Japanese seller's page style yumi3go55.
  23. It has been on Ebay for a while, this was few months ago.
  24. Thanks Thomas! So blue/brown tassels on Type 3 are a myth? Ohmura san is wrong then. That's quite interesting. Do you confirm it fits easily the hole without sarute? Thanks
  25. Hi everyone, It is written in the Jim Dawson's book page 175, the following : "Tassels for late-war army swords are medium brown and differ from naval tassels in that naval tassels are darker chocolate brown." On page 177, there is nice full page photo of a showato Type with this medium brown tassel that fitted in the kashira hole without sarute. I have always seen blue/brown company officer tassels on this Type 3 ie on Ohmura's website, but never medium brown tassel. What is the true version? Does anybody know? Finally, I have been told that there are two type of tassels (for a same model) : a thinner one and a thicker one. Can one confirms that the thinner tassel was used for Type 3 as Type 3 with sarute are rare and very loose (simple piece of metal ring or shoe lace). I have tried to fit a thicker blue/brown tassel in the kashira hole of a Type 3 but does not work. On Ohmura's san website they seem to fit perfectly. Thanks
