  7. cannot comment on the pieces in question as my experience in this field is basi but i would like to say on the pictures ford posted.... just looking at them even on a 2d screen they are mind bogglingly beautiful and indeed a work of art...i cannot imagine what they look like in the hand....alas i will never be able to afford anything like those but i am content just to admire them on here...... carry on now chaps with your discussion :D
  8. many thanks for the reply charlie....it seems i am getting closer all the time with this puzzle....its on a showa blade too so i presume it must be of some inportance other than just another war time blade etc
  9. missing kanji is saku which just means made this.....star is a good sign as it usually means traditionally made
  10. suggested by a knowledgeble member that this kokuin is of buddist origin and possibly lotus leaves and a vajra or thunderbolt...can anyone throw any light on this as i thought it was amen and ten etc

  14. can anyone scan and put a link up please of pages 26 to 27 of the sloughs book....a very very helpful member may have solved the mystery of my swords kokuin...i just need to examine the 3 tangs in this book to comfirm......hope i can find decent pics of my sword on my pc as its away at the moment being polished

  18. hi rich. yes i knew amahide was his father and kanemune was the chief smith at the plant....your site is most valuable indeed and full of needed info. kanemune also signs some swords with a different mei according to a very experienced member on here and i have one of those too..Kanetoshi (Kumazawa). it was kanetoshi mei that comfused us beginners recently if you remember.

  20. look forward to seeing these pictures too....can you look up greys advice on sword care and handling please as it does preserve them and shows correct handling on these precious items

  22. Anyone who would take an old Shinto blade in Kyu gunto mounts and part them by selling the koshirae on eBay shouldn't be collecting Japanese swords. Shows a terrible lack of respect for the sword and its history. The sword is most certainly old and I strongly suspect shinto, the Kyu gunto mounts make it very desirable to gunto collectors. People will pay $1000 for the sword in that state without even seeing the nakago... I would. totally agree pete....the sword should stay as it is as thats its history
