  1. unfortunate jean i do not pocess any books
  2. "Amen" to that, Barry! One of the main problems is that newcomers to Nihontô think all the info they need is out there on the internet. Partially that's true, and there *are* some shortcuts, saving a lot of time (but also missing quite some fun) we old farts spent learning stuff "the hard way". The new fakes are the proverbial litmus test, and I'm afraid those without first-hand experience in appreciating high quality Nihontô will pay dearly ... personally i do not think reading as many books will prepare you for the new fakes as experience like guido has as to be learnt in the field so to speak....you need to handle and study swords as much as possible and have hands on tuition to be fully prepared...this is something books cannot teach you. i admire and respect collectors like guido who has spent years of learning the arts and i am thankful that he offers his time for free to helping others like myself....quite of lot of guys on here are really helpful too and i am humbled to them so to speak
  3. wow.....thats a real beaut jean....particular the 3/4 bohi....am jealous now
  4. sorry for the poor quality pictures but i will learn how to do them better in future....kiyomitsu of kaga koto wakizashi.....1600s possibly the same as this one http://www.to-ken.com/swordregister/no27.htm
  5. glad he posted pics as he has now learned a valuable lesson and any future purchases he may ask first before buying....glad brian opened this military section
  6. cheers paul....that as a beautiful elegant shape just totally opposite to the other one but both beautiful in their own ways...
  7. i love naginata naoshi type wakizashis as i have one by kiyomitsu but i think this one is just formidable and owned by one of the members on here....i hope he dosent mind me putting up a pic of it.
  8. It should polish up fine as its very healthy, loads of meat. I'll get it polished in the next few months. mr bolton by any chance
  9. love to see the pics peter when you get the blade polished
  10. is this the same smith who was a student of kiyomitsu of kaga in the 16th century.....as i have a wakizashi of kiyomitsu
  11. cheers grey.....told them it was a copy
  12. been told genuine but i think its a chinese copy
  13. right.......i have the tsuba in hand now and its no looker nor is it valuable to any collector but i like to know what / when / whom etc :D the pictures do not do it justice :D as i presume the camera flash bleached it. its as follows,,,,, maru gata.....76.25mm x 67.28mm 2 x hitsu annas with no casting flanges or edges inside. kaku mimi of 6mm quite heavy at 175 grammes. has hammer marks and undulations on the faces. so basically thats all i can see about it....it actually fits one of my slender bisen wakizashis but its not going on it lol. i reckon its meiji or late edo but definately not chinese musr be worth peanuts. on a serious note when did brass tsubas come more common than iron and were it easeier to produce and manufacture
  14. personally i would pass on this due to the diy engravings.....just my opinion http://www.e-sword.jp/sale/0610_1057syousai.htm
  15. do not give up fritz as they are some very helpful and experienced guys on here who will share their wealth of knowledge to newbies like me and you foc, as stated before forums like this need new blood to cherish and keep going so do not give up but persue and you will find out more, as for louis please do not leave as you are too valuable and your exit will not benifit the newbies at all .......

  17. Brian might donate it to next years raffle and hope one of the two above wins it....
  18. you may be right ted :D .....i reckon i need to do more research on tsubas but as i say it was touch and go etc.....still only lost peanuts
  19. as title i just put in a silly bid and won it without really knowing much about it im afraid...all i can say until it arrives is its 7.5cm x 6.5cm with a 5mm thickness. will forward more details as soon as i see it in my hand....any views please good or bad
  20. seems to have active rust in the sword nick..would this be old damage re rusting as it were due to recent polish or fresh damage
  21. nice looking sword....does the hamon run the full length of the sword as its hard to see in the pics....it looks close to the ha in places
  22. i asked the seller that if the sale fell through i would buy the sword off straight away...then mark could have the sword for what i paid for it but i have not heard anything as yet......fingers crossed for you mark
  23. i was not bidding but just happened to spot it and tried reading the mei in case others were interested in it......i just watched it to the last seconds wondering wether anyone was going to bid but zilch......so if i wanted a sword from the usa i would have to test bid so to speak first
  24. thoughts and prayers to all of those poor people
  25. sorry mark as i only spotted it with a couple of hours to go but could only make out half the mei.....will get in touch if i see another one....try and contact the seller in case the buyer pulls out as its worth a try
