  1. could be as the rust on the tang and tsuba is still active...usually chinese copies have a distinct damacus type of hamon which this hasnt. the mei is sloppy but i am no expert in reading kanji....abit like 2 finger typing is where i am at the moment....thank you for your reply. edit.....rust might not be still active as its different colour in the other pics so could be just the lighting conditions.....
  2. hi brian i thought exactly same but etched hamon over chrome. amuses me why people buff metal up to a mirror finish and then think it looks great. in this case do you think the buffing has obscured the hamon by generating too much heat or just a normal case of a false temper line
  3. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0295589129 just browsing the site and saw this...must be showa 1940s and machined blade. not had chance to deciphe kanji as i am very slow but second kanji i presume is hisa, looks chromed or highly buffed with etched hamon......i have no intention of buying just speculating

  10. i can fully understand guido responce stephen but what better way to study a blade is they....i suppose this forum could have a beginners page where study blades with simple 2 character kanji are shown without revealing no other information until a certain elapse time as expired. we all start from the beginning as i am and with experience and time we hopefully get to a level where the top guys are. if they is no new blood in any sport or forum then it will surely soon decease. many thanks stephen for your reply
