  1. cheers paul....its away to be polished at the minute so i can tell you more details good or bad when the kiyomitsu returns....all i can say at the minute is in my previous posts on the blade is its a naginata shape etc.....the fujiwara blade is just left in a friens safe as i recall but that was the last time i spoke to him....i think he just leaves it as it is as he knows he is in a catch 22 situation
  2. my opologies and yes i do mean him, this was a couple of years ago and i told him all the options avaliable to him and that the smith was one of the most copied ever...other people have seen the blade and say it is most likely genuine.....unfortunately john or the previous owner tried to put an edge on the blade so i think its beyond repair....lovely looking sword too.i hope my kiyomitsu waki achieves the same status as this smith
  3. as mentioned in a previous post of mine,a friend from another forum as a wakizashi from the well known smith an by all accounts it is genuine....unfortunately it is beyond polishing or worth taking he chance too if you see what i mean...what are these worth now as i seen them around the £2000 area...i could put pics on what i have but the hamon does not show up but its just the basic striaght temper
  4. that is one beautiful but deadly looking blade.............
  5. thank you shan for your interesting info which i tend to agree about the armour piecing side..like everything polishing can be risky but i will never know anything about the blade or which kiyomitsu smith it is unless every detail is known...a forum colleauge of mine has some knowledgble friends in Japan and when he is over there he will inquire some more so when mr bolton can tell me more then i can pass it on
  6. sent it off to mr bolton a well known respected uk polisher for his advice etc...will keep you all updated good or bad news etc
  7. thank you for your quick response john
  8. out of curiosity do anyone know of any reputable polishers in the uk and average costs per inch or apraisel costs please
  9. many thanks to brian in pointing me in the right direction concerning my new blade..the mei is definately by kiyomitsu but the shape of the blade points towards a naginata noashi. if you look along the muni you can see it starts with a ridge then flattens out to a rounded edge then towards the kissiki it broadens out quite thickly....this looks like it was made that way rather than an amateur attempt later in life....anyone can throw any light on this.....any kiyomitsu smiths do this delibrately.....just trying to gather as much info before i commit myself further on this blade.....never seen anything like this before
  10. cheers brian..only paid 135 uk pounds for it as i knew it was genuine by the tang but from his pics the blade looked iffy...told him it could be a naginta as well....pleased with it as its the first little waki since i sold all my swords a few years ago. i could have it polished by a proffesionel knife maker as he did a great job on a yamato waki for me a few years ago but i do not want to risk it with this just in case,,,, a friend of mine from another forum damaged a genuine OMI DAIJO FUJIWARA TADAHIRA by grinding an edge to it...i will wait and just keep it clean and oiled till something crops up in the future....many many thanks for the advice brian
  11. many many thanks for all your help chaps......this is a great helpful forum and full of knowledgeble people
  12. posting on here as i mistakingly posted in the translation section.....my opologies............................. following from my tang kanji can anyone throw some light on this smith please.....what shall i do with the blade as in polishing etc.....is it worth while or just clean and oil it
  13. from a broken katana.....any help would be appreciated
  14. long story short here.....this tsuba was given as a present from Japanese goverment officials to a chap here in the uk in the 1920s...various members may remember this a few years ago as i shown this on forums before. steve smith from gb token society and the kashima sisters both say the quality is high and probarbly nara or aizu shoami and around the 1800....your views will be most welcomed....... and the rain is in gold and the birds in silver....never cleaned it as i do not know how so may be even better if i did
  15. when i come home later i will post my tsuba on here as i been told its a top quality nara or aizu shoami possibly 18 century....am sure some of you have seen before as i posted it on other forums along with the note that came with it
  16. details of blade as follows shobu-zukuri nakago------12cm nagasa------51cm sori..............1.5cm torii sorii nakago........funagata nakago jiri.....haagari the muni is ridge at first then its rounded all the way to the tip at the kissiki it appears to be broader than the rest of the blade but cannot measure as left my calipers else where....cannot describe hamon but hopefully pics will show up...also cannot comfirm hada as i think its in poor polish, the blade was pratically a steal as the chap did not know anything about it when i aquired it from him. look forward to any comments or if i got anything wrong as i last did this years ago
  17. check with other swords and it looks the same brian......will post other details asap and pictures
  18. was told earlier on here that this is kiyomitso....i know have the blade here and will post as many pictures as poss but i need to lower the quality as they are 3 meg plus each one....
  19. http://www.to-ken.com/swordregister/no27.htm this looks very similar to the pics he sent me......could it be the same smith
  20. will do better pics or a carbon rubbing when he sends me the blade...will also look for more info such as hada...temperline etc....many many thanks
  21. hi first posting and i wish to say hi.... been a member on other nihonto forums in the past and decided to rejoin some again.....a friend as asked me to decipher the kanji on his wakizashi for him but i am unable to do so. if i post a pic here can anyone help me please....many thanks
