  1. Sake puts the devil in me for some reason Oh and I love the setup Guido!
  2. A good way to check which Kanemoto would be to check the uniformity of the "3 ridges". Earlier (1st and 2nd) Kanemoto hamon was irregular Sanbon-sugi with later generations becoming more uniform with every 3rd peak raised. The younger the sword, the more uniformity. Also, i don't think early Kanemoto smiths made many Nihonto with Bohi. So if it's not gimei and it is an early Kanemoto, it is a rare find indeed. More than likely it's a Mino blade with a false signature. That in itself is not a problem and worth a polish and a possible removal of the mei but i would at least try to find out if it's genuine first. All in all it looks like a very decent blade! Congratulations!
  3. It's a really nice blade and being mumei shouldn't matter. Price is up to seller and if someone's interested they can make an offer. Start high and settle for something reasonable to both parties right?
  4. Seriously! The sooner people just slow down and stop, the quicker we'll get over this! But as to the mail, NOOOOOOOOOOO!
  5. As soon as he started hitting that blade with the uchiko, I cringed and stopped watching. Well, now I want to make a aikuchi koshirae for my wakizashi and go to Japan NOW because it's cheap to fly and buy blades. Can anyone see the date on that green paper?
  6. Darn!! There were a couple cool bowls from the 1930s that sold for super cheap that I really liked! Wish I would have seen this earlier
  7. Looks like it has some potential. Take some pics with it laid down on towel so it focuses properly and take pics of the Nakago(tang). There Is way too much detail on a traditional Japanese sword (Nihonto) to make a judgment through pics, let alone blurry pics. No offense as I know it's hard to take good pics of the blade but when you hold it up like that the camera tends to focus in the background. So far so good tho. The sword looks like it has some action albeit a little rust and in need of a polish
  8. I figure its the smith trying something new or out of the ordinary.
  9. Can you take pics of other side? So far it seems like a good candidate for polishing but it's not as out of polish as I first thought. But more pics of both sides would help as well as the Nakago/tang
  10. Ahh true, I didn't realize the book was that old! Lol
  11. Yeah I agree. Thats the only thing lacking in that book.
  12. Please follow this link and view the pictures in the book. I'm not listing this because of the online seller but because of the pictures. Some of the different pole arms in the 12 pages we can view are such well crafted pieces of art/war that I couldn't imagine the skill it would take to make one. I'm tempted to make an offer on this book The life sized fold out is cool too! Honestly I've never seen anything like these weapons. There is something about them that really moves me! https://www.ebay.com/itm/133271342414
  13. I can see that happening. I see things allot of times that they're advertising as Koto or older that look new.
  14. Actually pretty cool but the day Nihonto was relegated to the "tourist piece"
  15. Haha I could understand your point but It's kinda funny that several years ago I happened across that particular seller by chance and in less than a week I had found a few decent Nihonto. I was on my way to a 4th item (which was a really clean Shobu zukuri O-suriage wakizashi that had zero flaws and was in such a nice polish) But the moment I pulled the trigger another buyer had beat me to it... But since then, nothing. I've been checking daily for years now and have not seen anything close to what I found within that short amount of time. Seems also they've raised their prices quite a bit. They do have some decent yoroi once in a while tho.
  16. No matter what I do my Aunt will never believe that a person can own something that old without spending a million dollars. Actually, Im still shocked about it as well tbh
  17. I see an out of polish boshi\hamon. I think it would polish up really well. It seems well made
  18. Some sword sellers dont wanna deal with the headache but mail is getting through to america from Japan albeit very slow
  19. Same here. My family thinks Im nuts and question the authenticity of my purchases... "Hey, check out the 600 year old sword I just found!"... *Family looks at me with doubt*, "But how DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE its real?"....My response, "Sit down, were gonna be here for a while..." as I begin to read from 'The Connoisseurs Book of Japanese swords'... 5 hours later, "Yeah, but HOW DO YOU KNOW THE SWORDS YOU HAVE ARE REAL"? Well I just sold one for 2000$ Oh ok, its real
  20. I think I remember that one. Turned out to be a turnip puller?
  21. That's something you don't see everyday The Tsuka has an ax and a skull on it!
  22. Thanks! Yah I'm really not worried about it. I was trying to do a kantei and it dawned on me that I couldn't really figure out what it was. It's just weird. I thought they were "crab claws" at first but they seem to be circles with a tiny break in the top, almost complete but sharp and not defined like the crab claws. There is only 2 or 3 of them as well. There is also allot of hataraki, or activity outside of the hamon (I don't know the word but it's allot of clouds of black nie and other things in weird shapes) . I just feel like the smith was trying to say something. Like one day I'm going to see a pattern and finally see all the answers or something but probably not lol
