  1. AFAIK thick laquered leather with different maeasurements according to the number of yanone to be carried, most often 10. Sorry to be of little help but I've never had one of these and the ones I've seen , well I've not taken measurements. Some other member of the board will be more precise.
  2. Hi Markus. To sustain your thesis the example I provided is from the famous "Mongol Invasion Scroll" and is effectively a Tanto-Kodachi hold in reverse grip by a samurai to cut the head of a mongol general..Anybody can search a zoomed picture of that detail.
  3. indeed, on ancient scrolls as well, generally more reliable of later woodprints (far left).
  4. Very nice purchase. . Any chance to have them mounted as a daisho ?

  7. I know him from the very beginning when had just left his work in Great Britain and have collabirated for the traslation in intalian of his poket book on kantei. He made me moderator of his FB on nihonto but life ain't fair and I was forced to almost abruptly cut all relationship with him. Years that I don't read by him. Paul if you read these lines come back, even occasionally. You'll be most welcomed.

  9. For hachigatsu we might consider that the number eight is generally considered lucky in Japan. There are many superstitions about numeral and their writing and reading in kanji like the one that ask to sew a coin of five cent of Yen on the senninbari as the reading of the matter might be the auspicious "just Beyond the line of Death" considering that 4 (cent) would have been read as "shi".
