Hello, I am offering for sale my suemihara daisho set. The daito blade is papered "suemihara" O-suriage with 2 mekugi ana, unsigned. straight temperline, recent polish no major flaw, if I remember the core steel is not visible. The polish is not bad, as the hada and hamon are well visible. The shoto is unpapered, probably also suriage and unsigned The hamon and temperline are very similar to the daito blade Both have matching shirasaya with same attribution Both also have matching edo koshirae Shakudo nanako matched fuchi-kashira set with gold Shakudo matched menuki set with gold and silver Old samekawa with real oyatsubu, not bone or ivory inlay. Matching saya with pearl and pine needle lacquer, good condition, not perfect, 2 small missing areas on daito saya, no cracks. Unmatched kogatana handle with good blade. Asking 6000€ plus shipping european union only, sorry, I can't fill online custom form in my country.

I missed a terrific bowl shaped daisho tsuba with that pattern, close to karaigi glaze.

one of these is on yahoo right now, sezller has a legit nice tsuba, and this fake one in same time.

Finally received my daisho set, all is quite good, the daito blade is in good condition, no blister no core visible. the shirasaya both are good, same for the koshirae, there is a seppa issue, we can see the seppa of both are not original, I will have ot replace them. Other issue are the both tsunagi, definitely not original ones I think I will make new tsunagi by myself, to get daisho perfect match, like my munehisa uchigatana set.

I purchased to old polishing stones from same seller, probably 2 nagura, not sure yet, the seller sold about 15 old stones, from arato to uchigumori, all were used, some damaged, he sold a set of 3 old samekawa, sadly I missed the bid, was in the garden, and sold other sword related stuff. I saw this too, did not purchase, but interesting, the brown color and the clean section for tsuka use.

I think some other variable can have incidence, what kind of copper, is it yamagane based, I think even the term yamagane can be subject to interpretation. There are probably several copper silver and other alloy sources in Japan, and probably some foreign sources too. Depending on refining abilities, the final patina will change, also, depending on metal mixing, the final result will be different, there is virtually infinite combination possibilities. That makes me think about antique gold coinage and jewelry, made from natural gold metal, called "electrum" silver percentage varying from almost zero to almost 100%, making color vary from strong gold to greenish shades to almost white color, even native gold color can vary in the same mine (example, rosia montana mine in romania, very nices leanes and crystals on quartz). Lets suppose some older metal recycling too, because gold is expensive, so, combination and final color can be almost infinite. Only individual chemical test could bring knowledge about the specific alloy used for specific item.

Are the relief carving, ladies and quails on back, a later add? There is a strange scale issue on both sides. Is the lady kogo other tsuba like yours, same exact theme, with quails on other side? Quail grass and moon are a classinc theme in painting, seems to be autumn theme if I am right. Shibuicki can look a certain color when newly patinated, I am always fascinated by brand new patinated shibuichi, but once it gets old and silver has tarnished, the color would tend to be more brownish, darker and also less interesting, but it's easy to see it's copper silver alloy with a close look, because clean metal color is different, kind of pinkinsh color, and also the pattern is visible under magnification, we can see the crystalline structure showing both metal are not perfectly melt together. Weathered brass, I mean, rokusho weathered brass, and copper have much warmer color, but some other process can bring brass quite a cold color, looking like old shibuichi, same for copper, old copper pipes are good example. first appears to be shibuichi, my guess is low silver shibuichi, under magnification you can see crystalline structure here and there, but actual color is looking some copper pipes or rain-oil-gaz patinated brass, real color is a very bit lighter. Second seems to be kuro shibuichi, color on picture is far too light real color is much darker shakudo plugs are almost black, I used a white reflector on surface, it's polished surface. there is a very very slight nashiji structure visible under magnification, some very fine relief dots on it, nit like the shibuichi pieces I saw.there are small scratches showing metal color copper, very bit pinkish, the sekigane and dress are copper.

I prefer the f-k set to the tsuba, I think maybe a different tsuba theme can be a better choice, simple iron with bamboo sukashi can be a good choice. The tiger engraving on tsuba is very bad compared to F-K set. I don't know if all the parts must be the same, not sure about it.

Depending on your other fittings and depending on the sword itself, you can use that tsuba or find a simplier design made from steel. I think I saw several on yahoo like this.

Hello, I am wondering if a koshira must have all parts matching same season? I saw several popular theme, chichi botan, bell cricket, and other themes, these must be season theme. Is it like kazari, or women clothing? Is it like the kakejiku, or other things used for ceremonies, or just season thee? In this case it means the swords had many different ferrules, at least one set per season and probably one set for special occasions (plain shakudo tsuba, karaigi saya and horn kashira) I found a daisho set, the mount doesn't seem to be so recent work, tsukamaki seems to be quite old, F-K are aoi plant and menuki are, I think chrysanthemus, not sure, quite difficult to find the actual plant names, for example I didn't find the scientific aoi plant name. All seem to be real daisho set, not saya from somewhere, and tsuka from somewhere else, only the tsuba were recently paired with mounts. So I am looking for a tsuba set, but want to know more about how to match, if there is a seson theme to follow. And in general, I wanted to know more about season theme on ferrules and koshirae, it should also be interesting to list here the species, animas and plants used as season theme, as this is my main Japanese painting collection them.

the peeling off is very interesting. I remember I got two sukashi tsuba in the past, both sakura theme. one had light rust and keeping original patina almost all surface, clean, but easy to see it's not thick, very neat surface. I made similar process on steel, if made very slowly, it can almost look like shakudo, but hard to make. The other tsuba had thick flaking bluish patina, strange, not very nice finish but tsuba was interesting, I was thinking about forged iron, and the flaking maketial forming on it, but didn't think the tsuba could have been into fire.

This is my example of udenuki no ana in collection. And a simplier design from same smith (myochin ki yoshishige) I have a question, I saw several early tsuba with only one hole on bottom, not two, one seemed to be a kokinko, not sure, but looked old, the other was an iron, but with ganmaku later add, and from what I remember, ganmaku was popular during momoyama period, so it means the tsuba would be older, and it also had one single hole on bottom, maybe it's for same purpose, and then fashion changed, two holes were more efficient than only one?!
