Help please with another mei translation
drb 1643 replied to drb 1643's topic in Translation Assistance
Thank you very much gentlemen! Am I correct with a May 1937 date? Also since there is no star stamp is this still considered a gendaito? Tom -
Hi all, here is another mei I’m hoping for help from the membership in translating. Thank you all in advance, Tom
-
Thank you very much David, that helps me a lot. With out the star stamp is this still considered a Gendaito? Tom

Can someone please point me in the right direction on information about this smith? I cannot find any mention of him anywhere. Thank you all very much, Tom
-
Thank you very much Dr. Shuttleworth. I sincerely appreciate your fast response! Tom

Hi all a friend of mine was given this sword by his great uncle who was in the US army pacific theater. I’m hoping the members here can help me with this translation. Thank you all very much, Tom

Thanks guys! Yes, it was the full Monty-not inexpensive! Moses refinished the original habaki and made the shirasaya. You get what you pay for, I definitely would use him again. Tom

Hi all, Here is the sword back from polishing. I'm very happy with the way it turned out! If the moderators can move this to a more appropriate section please do so. Thank you, Tom

Thank you very much Chris, I feel a little better now! I guess the smiths "hand cut" some of the mons so there is a little variation? Tom
-
Yes Dave, I also noticed the kikusui was hand cut. This sword was in a collection since the mid 80’s that I know for sure. I sure hope they weren’t faking Minatogawa’s back then. Tom

Here are some pictures of my Minatogawa. It has a lacquer scabbard and canvas tsuka covering instead of same. Any comments are welcome. Thank you all in advance. Tom

Auction Ended Real Minatogawa Or Not?

So I’m guessing from the responses that this was also a “fake”. Tom -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-WWll-Naval-officers-sword-Minatogawa-Masataka-kikusui-mon-tassel/352542235258 I'm thinking this one was legit but would like to hear from the experts. Thank you very much, Tom

Thank you very much Vajo. I thought it was but just wanted confirmation. Tom

Is this eBay Minatogawa also a gimei? Item #143035887467 https://www.ebay.com/itm/143035887467 Thank you all for your insight. Tom

Thank you very much Vajo for responding. Tom

So is the consensus that this is a "fake" Minatogawa sword? I'm sorry but I'm not fully understanding this thread. Tom

Thanks guys for the confirmation! Tom

Hi all, I'm looking for help on the date on this tang. I think it's January 44 but I'm still not proficient at this. Thank you all in advance, Tom
-
Thank you both Ray and Stephen. Yes Ray, I agree that the mei is not a match. I sincerely appreciate your input. Tom
-
Thank you very much Ray and Neil. I was able to get the Masa, but could not figure out the second character. I'm a neophyte to this study, but I did realize the unusual placement of the mei. In your opinion does this placement signify anything? Thank you again, Tom
