  1. Is there a write up or article about the show posted online anywhere? Maybe one of the people that were there could write one.
  2. My burning questions is what is the thinking on gimei signatures as to: 1. put on when forged new by smith 2. put on at some later date after forging 3. how can we tell?
  3. It depends on the person. Some go by the qualities of the blade first and can look past a gimei signature ( I fall into this category). Some see it as a real issue and maybe as dominnimod said above, not sincere. Also I am 90% sure a gimei will not be eligible for shinsa, but I am not 100% sure so if that means something to the person, then there is that to consider.
  4. New to me! This is amazing! Thanks for posting! And as a side note; I am a very new member and there are others everyday. Yes, an exhaustive search of the archives can show something has been discussed, but when would I ever have searched for this? Great post.
  5. This story and print has always amazed me: Short story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ghost_of_Oyuki Picture: http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab326/Grayrider16/Oyuki.jpg
  6. This post is perfect. Captures what I was thinking and I did not present it right.
  7. I am a free market guy, believe if demand is there then there will be a market. If there are only say 3-8 good polish guys, that seems like a real problem. So either: 1. training and study for a correct polish is very rare 2. it's possible (modern techniques, but not much demand) If a polish shop has a 2 year wait period there is something not right.
  8. I am total novice when it comes to swords, so that makes me an insane know nothing about fittings so bear with me. I am sure this is a run of the mill fitting. I have seen this habaki on a few swords on Aoi Art and I really like it. It would fit a certain scheme I have in mind for a complete set of fittings for a sword. Can anyone tell me what it is? Better yet, where I can get one?
  9. Thanks, now I will be getting bids ready for the next few weeks......
  10. Watching this one, very nice condition. It's going to get pricey I think: http://www.ebay.com/itm/282436947430?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  11. Sale or no sale, the ebooks I bought have already been wildly useful. I ask the board, from this list what are the best titles for a newbie. I bought the 3 recommended above already. Most interested in mei signatures and more smith lines.
  12. Maybe this has been covered and my search was not correct to ferret it out. It would seem the registration numbers on the top left/right would be easy to enter into a database that could be searched. Now I don't think full blade pictures nor mei pictures would need be stored, but a date issued, sword description, etc would be a nice tool.
  13. What a deal. Already bought a sword this past week and don't want wife to kill me in my sleep.
  14. If there are United States members that have had Aoi ship swords to them I would like to hear about the process. Customs and any state tax issues. Message me if preferred.
  15. No expert at all, but this is a fine era piece in excellent condition. Perhaps not date or smith rare, but some people like me just want to buy this sort of thing to admire, not try to make money back later on.
