  1. That's a South Manchurian Railway stamp, looks to be an uncommon variant of Mantetsu that predates the Koa Isshin Mantetsu Mei. More information can be found in the Military Swords section and this link: http://ohmura-study.net/913.html
  2. I did manage to get a nice RJT gunto in mounts from him for not much money, must've flown under the shill radar. He's relisted 2-3 Koa Isshins in the past few weeks as well.
  3. Best source & prices, always a pleasure dealing with Grey.
  4. Nothing wrong with them, I wish I'd picked up one for cheap to add to the collection.
  5. Martin seems like a reasonable fellow and active member in furthering the research and appreciation of Nihonto, let's not ready the tar and feathers too quickly.
  6. I've had this scroll for awhile now and have wondered what the signature and grass script mean. Any help is much appreciated.
  7. My impression is the same as Uwe, late Koto Mino school.
  8. Looks like an indent from the edges of the stamp.
  9. Commissioned piece is my take on it.
  10. My bad, after rereading your comment that's clear. You do sometimes see NCO sword in Shin Gunto mounts, I recall there was a discussion on here about the army allowing a concession for NCO swords in officers mounts due to the shortage of swords during the Manchurian campaign.
  11. Chinese fake, don't get the guys hopes up...
  12. Definitely, I meant the latter.
  13. Mantetsu would be the highest quality in my books in terms of metallurgy, construction and design of use.
  14. Enlarged mekugi-ana perhaps?
  15. If there no small stamps on the Nakago it could be either fully or part traditionally forged, take it into the morning sun and you will be able to see any activity clearly.
  16. Only thing looks off is the kissaki which may have been poorly repaired.
  17. Absolutely fake.
  18. Sloughs is the current bible.
  19. I don't know about massive, I have a Type 94 with a bend so great it nearly has a Kanbun Sori sideways.
  20. I think you may be on a massive Schnapps bender, my friend! No bends that I can see.
  21. I hadn't read the date so 1943 would mean they aren't the early type of mountings, they just look like it due to wear. The could be older mounts that aren't matched to the blade, overall nothing suspicious with it at all.
  22. They are early Type 94 fittings.
  23. Interesting, I'm glad it wasn't a straight pass.
  24. My instant reaction was it could be "Trench Art" by a handy soldier.
  25. The Saya leather is certainly new, within the last few decades, the end leather chape is original WW2 leather though. I think it's original, doesn't make sense to put that much effort and expense into a Koshirae like this post war. The fittings are all of the better quality type and the Itomaki is top notch. I'll get some more photos later.
