  1. Not to mention these papers arent lightly given away for the fun of it and they usualy depend on many experts' opinions. let me emphasis on the use of the experts word here.
  2. Piers, I do not mean to insult anyone but, some collectors are quite pretentious and in many different fields, i tend to take advices from such persons with a grain of salt... as they say, the less they know, the more they feel the need to prove they know alot... especially when noone asked them a thing! Personnaly i find it quite alright and perfectly fine to have papers for your nihonto, infact i would recommand to get only papered swords when buying online. As you stated, these papers can come in handy for many reasons... insurance, theft, trade, study even... etc. Looking down on papers from a respected organisation sounds like overconfidence in one's knowledge and not quite modest IMHO. Remy
  3. The way i see it, a sword that is papered isnt worth more than one that isnt, but a sword that isnt papered might lose value on the trade market on the western market due to the general lack of widespread knowledge of nihonto... all perceptions there.
  4. What is the point about the mekugi... lol Well to me this look like an old repro, or a machine made gunto blade, at best. Feel free to correct me if i am wrong. Remy
  5. Someone did Brian, and yes... highly inflamable material i agree. thanks for the clarifications. Remy
  6. I understand your point Brian, but what about warning innocent customers about a particular online seller' behaviors? If i were to buy something from this guy, i sure would like to see this piece of info so i could avoid him... Anyways thats just me. Remy
  7. This seller on eBay often have Koi themed hanging scrolls among other things, ranging from modern made to antiques. http://stores.ebay.ca/Japanese-Fine-Arts-BUREIDO
  8. Koi prints? as in.. koi fishes or is this something else?
  9. Heres a link i found while searching for what you said Jacques, looks close to the hamon we have here! http://www.japanesesword.com/Images/Swords/06/1106/1106wak3/1106wak3.html altho this one look kind of shiny...
  10. What type of hamon is this? i have a badly rusted blade around here with a hamon that i think might look just like this one. looking good either way, Marius! Remy
  11. *suddently feels like drinking some sake...*
  12. After watching your picture Gabriel, i still think this one is on the Koshi sori side of the line, but i admit it isnt obvious. The highest point still look closer to the habaki than the kissaki, to me anyways.
  13. To me, judging from Brian' pic, it does look Koshi sori. Remy
  14. Grrrr... idiots like this are.... friggon idiots! :x Aye, this gives us the collectors a bad name...
  15. ive seen worst looking fakes out there. but still fake
  16. Cowboy + Politic = Bush? As for this ebay seller, i just wish ppl would stop fighting (and paying absurd amount of money) over the rusted out blades that he sale so i could get more and fit them with habaki!
  17. Greetings everyone, I have a tsuba that i would like to fit proprely for a blade but the nakago-ana is a bit too big and the tsuba rattle, so i wanted to fit it with copper (dont know the name of said copper pieces, sorry) I was wondering if any of you heard or red anything regarding the methods used to apply the coppy? i would think that the copper is put in place and then carefully work hardened with a tiny hammer to clamp the copper inside the nakago-ana and finally, filled to fit the blade. Anyone can confirm or correct this? I know this isnt a crafting forum, sorry for asking here but i had nowhere else to look. Also, if someone asked me, I would say that i concider myself quite skilled with my hands and cautious, i made a habaki for the said sword and now i am looking for useful information, not to ruin an antique. Thank you in advance for your time and for any info you can share. Remy
  18. I like this hada, it might be the lighting that make it show off brighter than it might actually be, or maybe it got "enhanced" by an unscrupulous togoshi in the past! i still find it goodlooking. I personnaly wouldnt compare this to a factory stamped/made sword as this was made by hand and traditionaly all the way! At this price, i would expect it to be papered tho... Remy
  19. well, i would expect more curiosity from someone willing to spend this much money on something ... maybe hes showing pics off auctions? unlikely tho..
  20. Next thing you know, they will try to ban water as it can make you drown and air because it can spread deadly gas... Get a grip already, politicans! Man, Henry... i know alot of people, me included, who would have loved to receive such invitation from an experienced nihonto student, some people just are clueless...
  21. Hello , i dont know your name, Could you please post a picture of what you are refering to instead of a random drawing? heh Also could you reread your post before posting it, i am afraid that i cannot understand some sentence here and there... might be typos. Off the top of my head, i wouldnt invest in professional polishing for a mass production blade. Later, Remy
  22. Thanks Jacques, these two nakago and hamons are like moon and sun, unrelated.
  23. Oh boy ... you tried, but hes a nutsbag, ignore his email and enjoy your new gift blade. The way i see it, you saved the blade from a raving lunatic!

    switcheroo

Milt, your sword is looking rather.... fishy! *drum roll*
  25. Nice itame hada and bohi! I like the activity with the nie waves... one question tho, is the hada always this bright or is this because of the camera that is a bit too hard?
