  1. p.s. and I have to add ( echoing Guido ); why bother studying flawed, or otherwise "ugly" work, when wanting to understand Japanese art swords what is to be gained from looking at second rate, or utterly buggered work....? You will have to ask this question to the persons that grant flawed juyos their title, as it seem they will have more credibility than anyone.
  2. OMG! you've found NEMO!
  3. Guido, if you chose to focus on the negatives that is your prerogative, i chose to look for the positives about things.
  4. Regardless of the non existant resellability of this piece.. if you focus on whats good on it im sure you can get a fairly decent piece to study at a significantly discounted price, if the seller know what hes talking about. Remy
  5. Greetings, I too, would like to learn how to proprely patinate iron tsubas in a traditional way. Of course it would be to use on modern made tsubas. Remy

  10. Even with the niks on the ha... wow, amazingly beautiful blade!
  11. I understand perfectly what you meant Stephen but these defects arent all that bad, 2k for a mounted and polished blade is quite honest.
  12. Well guys, you convinced me to get a normal gun case... and i must say that i feel alot safer with my nihontos in it now. Yep, best two hundred something bucks i ever invested to have confidence, now i can sleep on my two ears instead of on my two nihontos!
  13. Greetings, i have but a simple question. It is understood that nihontos should be stored horizontaly to avoid messing the scabbard with oil etc. but is there any gun safes manufacturer that make their safes horizontal? Im looking for a movable-when-needed safe so this is why a gun safe came to mind. Id appreciate any info you might have regarding potential providers, i might have to look at a sporting shop for a gun safe and put it horizontaly but i dont know how conveniant it will be to deal with. Regards, Remy
  14. The old methods have been working for the past ~1600 years, why change them now? I agree on the use of uchiko powder, should be used only when theres a necessity as whiping with clean, lotion free tissues do the trick to remove old oil. chemicals on your blade would be a nono i think, however some people will tell you that its okay to use "some" to clean your blade, i for one will stick with the old methods as you never know what effect a chemical that wasnt there back then will have on your blade, in the long run after a couple of years of usage. over oiling is another nono, soaking the blade in oil will make the scabbard moist and that will promote rust, quite the opposite of the initial wanted effect! self fixes on the blade is yet another nono In short... its the usual stuff you read everywhere!
  15. Im with Jean on that one, if you like it and have the funds, you get it. But if you doubt and hesitate then look elsewhere.. As Brian posted, Aoi is a great seller and you can make great deals, plus they come with oshigatas that look pretty good when framed
  16. Thanks for the link Brian, and thanks for writing it Guido!
  17. Louis, hope you recover fully and swiftly! health is the most important thing! Im also glad to see that you worked on the blade i sent you, i didnt dare bugging you to ask for progress! thanks!

Be careful with what you say as they have loooong memories! edit to clarify: when i said "they", i was refering to gardeners and people arranging flowers, of course...
  20. Looks like a flower cutter to me.. the linen canva in the lacquer... the antler.. yep, quite outdoor style to me!
  21. A wakizashi sent from canada (Qc) to USA (Hawaii) cost me about 80$ with Fedex, insured etc.

James, i really dont think this is a flaw... just a nie island and it could very well be superficial (on the surface only) so there isnt much to worry about here i think
