  1. I have a large number of Kanemune on file. He must have been a prolific smith! 44 of them. Quite a number of the blades are in civil fittings, too. He must have had a sword shop or 2 buying his blades.
  2. Always a good thing, and expands your understanding of our hobby!
  3. A good discussion of a variation, possibly early version, of the patented drag posted by @RobCarter3 here:
  4. Thanks guys! Any idea why that first kanji is different than the one on JSI? I can't copy & paste as the whole page is a photo. JSI - Nengo Page
  5. John, @PNSSHOGUN, will enlighten us!
  6. I don't see this date kanji on the JSI page. Help, please?
  7. Ok, thanks guys! Not something I normally pay attention to.
  8. Also, a late-war 95, with cloth-wrapped tsuka. No photo of stamp, but descriptions says Jinsen: At this AUCTION.
  9. Bubba at work: Found at this AUCTION.
  10. Why would a blade have two names on opposite sides?
  11. Comes with the patented drag, not common on kaigunto, as well!
  12. That makes more sense, thank you!
  13. Ha! No it's at auction, and needs rescuing!
  14. Better be ready, Marvel Movies are going to be knocking at your door Super Translator Man! Thank you my friend.
  15. Found him! "TOSHIMASA (敏正), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Toshimasa” (敏正), real name Asai Eikurō (浅井栄九郎), born January 15th 1886, student of Watanabe Kanenaga (渡辺兼永), he worked as guntō smith and died October 25th 1958, ryōkō no retsu (Akihide)"
  16. TOSHIMASA (俊正), dated 1942 Large Seki stamp of the Seki Cutlery Manufacturers Association. They were inspecting blades in the Seki area for quality. Should be a nice looking showato (non-traditionally made blade).
  17. Anyone make out that date? Closest I can see is ' Tem-mei (1781) 68 But that doesn't make any sense.
  18. We have seen a few variations of this design, however, this one’s really, really nice!
  19. I've never heard them called anything else.
  20. Interesting. It's mismatched in number as well as arsenal. That's a Tokyo 1st saya.
