  1. GUTE ARBEIT!
  2. Interesting, definately worth a listen. Oddly enough, a friend of mine and Yoshimura were friends- this was an unexpected trip in the time machine.
  3. Very nice image! Cheers
  4. Great idea Brian, why waste all that information. I hope the saved posts will be vetted as I have noticed quite a few errors in some of the sale listings. Many are fine while others are most definitely not.
  5. Sad outcome indeed. On the brighter side, its still an authentic piece of history and good for display and the odd story telling session. Hopefully next time your story will have a happier ending.
  6. Dave, As Jon intimated, collectors are not fond of amateur conservation work. If the piece warrants it, professional repair should be a consideration.
  7. Piers solution of bamboo peg and glue sounds good to me. NO NAILS, NO METAL! The trouble with off the rack boxes is that they rarely fit, as noted, the shifting of the tsuba causes the problem........when transporting IMMOBILIZE. If you are handy you could modify things for a proper fit. Bags are elegant , but I could recount horror stories. Ultimately, bespoke is the best solution if you can track down a good source. Cheers,
  8. John, Interesting. I don't think the time of manufacture is at issue, just keep in mind that 1812 is a starting point as this design, in some cases, continued to be produced for many years thereafter. As to place of manufacture, I would want to exhaust a few more avenues of expert inquiry before being comfortable. Best of luck.
  9. Could be Jon, but it appears that this was a popular design that has various sources. An end on shot of the pommel would probably be helpful, as would someone well versed in this area. Too bad the scabbard is missing.
  10. Not my cup of tea.
  11. Stephen, Thanks, the spiraling centipede does draw one in.
  12. Danke Uwe.
  13. Gentlemen, your kind remarks are appreciated. Ian, thank you for providing so much information, my friend will be most pleased. Uwe, for want of pertinent reference material I can not confirm, with certainty, your translation. Sorry.
  14. Thought this may be of some interest, a friend of mine recently acquired it and let me post it here.
  15. Bonne nuit!
  16. More wonderful material. Thank you Malcolm.
  17. Beautiful blade. Thanks for posting.
  18. Christian, my reply to your remarks is the same as to Fords(see above). Thanks for taking the.time to voice your opinion. If you are interested in fact vs. fiction...I respectfully suggest an unbiased second look.
  19. Ford, I appreciate your most learned input. I have the advantage of examining this tsuba "in hand"...it is not cast.
  20. Curran, thanks for the kind words and references. I believe I have read most of your comments regarding Norisuke posted here(NMB)...always enlightening.
  21. Thanks all, Robert the mei is Norisuke. Bazza, surface comes off rather bright in the photo..a combo of fresh wax and too much flash, in hand it is much more subdued. Not cast,no monkeys. Your friends "flowerpot" must have been quite the surprise!
  22. Got this from the neck of a mannequin in the window of a vintage clothing store. It was used as a pendant, strung from a long silk cord, 'a la Norma Desmond. The proprietress claimed it was 1920's/30's costume jewelry! Things turn up in the strangest places.
